Guwahati, July 24
More than 10.6 lakh people have been affected by the ongoing flood situation in Assam, with the deluge continuing to impact several districts of the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday, asserting that the government is working round-the-clock to provide relief and rehabilitation to those affected.
In a post on X, Sarma said the state government was ensuring the uninterrupted supply of food, drinking water, medicines and other essential items to flood-hit families.
"Over 10.6 lakh people have been affected due to the ongoing floods, currently raging through several districts. There has been heavy loss to life and property. Our government is working 24x7 to provide relief to the affected people with constant supply of food, water, medicines and other essentials. Will keep you posted with further details. Chairing a meeting soon on this issue," the Chief Minister said.
According to the latest flood bulletin shared by the Chief Minister, the floods have so far affected 10,63,216 people across 25 districts between April 29 and July 23.
A total of 77 revenue circles and 2,023 villages have been impacted by the deluge. The report said 162 relief camps are currently operational, sheltering 41,264 inmates, while another 1,072 relief distribution centres have been set up to provide assistance to affected residents.

Every year, same story. Assam's flood management seems broken despite crores spent on embankments and dredging. Sir, we need a permanent solution, not just emergency relief. Climate change is making things worse, but our rivers are so clogged with silt and river encroachments... I hope the review meeting today will look at long-term planning and early warning systems. Better late than never, but action is needed now.
I've seen the visuals on news channels – it's absolutely devastating. The fact that 28,912 people have been evacuated is commendable, but with 77 revenue circles and 2,023 villages impacted, this is a massive humanitarian crisis. The entire country needs to stand with Assam right now. 🔴
The people losing their homes, crops, livestock – it's not just statistics, it's livelihoods washed away. 1,072 relief distribution centres is a good number but the real test is whether the supplies actually reach the 10.6 lakh affected, especially those in remote areas. I hope central assistance comes quickly, and the NDRF/SDRF are deployed well. Jai Hind. 🇮🇳
Honestly, while the relief operations are necessary, the CM's post on X feels more like PR than urgency. "Will keep you posted" – people are losing everything. We need more proactive rescue operations, better coordination with the Army, and real-time updates on missing persons. Sivasagar alone has 6 missing and 21 dead. Every life matters. 🙏
