Numaligarh Refinery achieves record throughput in FY26, Hardeep Singh Puri hails performance

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri congratulates Numaligarh Refinery for processing 3,113 TMT crude at 103% capacity, a historic high.

"NRL is not just Assam's refinery; it is a strategic national asset - Hardeep Singh Puri"

New Delhi, April 1

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday congratulated Numaligarh Refinery Limited for achieving a record performance in the financial year 2025-26, calling it a landmark year for the refinery.

In a social media post, the minister highlighted that NRL processed 3,113 TMT (Thousand Metric Tonnes) of crude in FY 2025-26, operating at 103 per cent capacity utilisation.

This marks the refinery's highest-ever throughput and the second consecutive year in which it has run beyond its rated capacity of 3 MMTPA.

Puri praised the refinery's consistent performance, noting that operating above its designed capacity for two consecutive years reflects strong operational efficiency and reliability.

He stated, "Congratulations to the entire @NRL_MoPNG team on a landmark year. Processing 3,113 TMT of crude in FY 2025-26, at 103 per cent capacity utilisation, is the refinery's highest-ever throughput, and for the second consecutive year, NRL has run beyond its rated 3 MMTPA capacity".

He also highlighted a significant rise in LPG production, stating that output ramped up by over 22 per cent in March 2026 alone. The increase came at a crucial time when the country required additional supply, highlighting the refinery's responsiveness to national energy needs.

In addition to LPG, the refinery also recorded its highest-ever annual production of motor spirit (MS), further strengthening its contribution to the country's fuel supply.

The minister described Numaligarh Refinery as not just an industrial unit in Assam, but a strategic national asset that plays an important role in India's energy security.

He added that the refinery's performance reflects the broader vision of transforming the Northeast into a key driver of the country's energy sector.

Puri attributed this progress to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the development of energy infrastructure in the Northeast is a crucial part of strengthening India's overall energy framework.

"NRL is not just Assam's refinery; it is a strategic national asset, and its performance reflects the Prime Minister's vision of transforming the Northeast into an engine of India's energy security," he said.

The minister concluded by congratulating the entire NRL team for their achievement and acknowledged their role in setting new benchmarks in refinery performance.

The 22% increase in LPG production in March is very timely. With rising demand, such domestic production boosts are crucial to keep prices in check. Kudos to the NRL team for their hard work.

While the achievement is commendable, I hope the focus on 'record throughput' doesn't come at the cost of environmental safeguards in a sensitive region like Assam. Sustainable growth should be the priority.

Impressive operational metrics. Running at 103% capacity utilization consistently is no small feat in the refining industry. This directly contributes to reducing India's import dependency. Well done!

As someone from the Northeast, it's heartening to see our infrastructure getting national recognition. NRL's success should bring more investment and job opportunities to the region. A step in the right direction!

Good performance, but the minister's statement linking everything to the PM's vision is a bit much. Can't the hardworking engineers and staff at NRL get credit without it being a political highlight? Just my two paise.

The strategic focus on energy assets in the Northeast makes perfect sense from a logistical and security standpoint. This kind of capacity building is essential for a growing economy like India's.
