"NDA's landslide win in Bihar, where the alliance clinched 202 of the 243 assembly seats - News report"

Patna, May 7

Ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal and other National Democratic Alliance allies took oath on Thursday at Gandhi Maidan in Patna as part of a major expansion of the Samrat Choudhary-led cabinet in Bihar.

Those who took oath as ministers in the Samrat Choudhary-led cabinet include Shrawon Kumar, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Nishant Kumar and Leshi Singh, along with Ram Kripal Yadav, Nitish Mishra, Damodar Rawat, Sanjay Singh (Tiger), Ashok Choudhary and many others from the NDA alliance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with several other leaders were present at the occassion.

This comes months after NDA's landslide win in Bihar, where the alliance clinched 202 of the 243 assembly seats. The 2025 verdict delivered the NDA a commanding three-fourths majority, while the Mahagathbandhan managed just 35 seats.

Within the alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 89 seats, and the Janata Dal (United) secured 85. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) bagged five, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha took four.

Among the opposition, the Rashtriya Janata Dal finished with 25 seats, followed by the Indian National Congress with six, CPI(ML)(L) with two, and one seat each for the Indian Inclusive Party and CPI(M). The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen secured five seats, while the BSP won one.

Nitish Kumar on November 20 took oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders of the NDA.

On March 30, Nitish Kumar resigned as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC), marking the next major political transition as he prepares to assume office in the Rajya Sabha.

Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the first-ever Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Minister of Bihar, succeeding Nitish Kumar's 21-year tenure.

To balance power dynamics in the coalition, JD(U) veterans Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Earlier, Samrat Chodhary comfortably won the trust vote in the 243-member Bihar legislative assembly, reaffirming the NDA alliance's unity, marking the completion of the political transition in the state following the resignation of Nitish Kumar from the CM post.

The confidence motion was passed comfortably by the BJP, JD(U) and other NDA constituents, affirming their trust in Samrat Choudhary.

The political transition in Bihar is fascinating. Nitish Kumar stepping down after two decades and moving to Rajya Sabha – it's a masterstroke or a retreat, depending on who you ask. The expanded cabinet has too many familiar faces though. BJP got 89 seats, JDU 85, but the cabinet feels like it's rewarding loyalists rather than new talent. Leshi Singh's inclusion is nice for women representation, but where are the young professionals? We need more MBAs and engineers, not just politicians' kids. 🤔

Samrat Choudhary's first CM speech after the confidence vote was promising – he spoke about infrastructure and education. But actions speak louder than words! The old guard like Shrawon Kumar and Vijay Sinha being back doesn't inspire much confidence. And omitting Nitish's son from the initial cabinet? That's just optics to avoid 'dynasty' accusations. Meanwhile, opposition has been completely crushed with just 35 seats. Democracy needs a strong opposition, otherwise it becomes one-party rule. Just saying! 🇮🇳

As a Bihari, I'm cautiously optimistic. The NDA's 202 seats mandate is clear – people want governance, not drama. But this cabinet expansion feels rushed. Why not wait for proper portfolio allocation? And why is Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha when he just was CM? Politics in Bihar is like a game of musical chairs. Samrat Choudhary needs to focus on jobs and flooding – those are real issues. All these ministers taking oath at Gandhi Maidan is nice, but I need pothole-free roads first! 😅

Can we talk about how RJD only got 25 seats while Congress got just 6? The 'grand alliance' is in shambles. Meanwhile, NDA is flexing its muscle with PM Modi and Amit Shah present at the oath ceremony. That
