"Nice start, everyone played well": Australia's stand-in captain Travis Head after his side's win over Ireland

Stand-in captain Travis Head hails Australia's "nice start" and the exceptional bowling of Nathan Ellis & Adam Zampa in a 67-run T20 World Cup victory over Ireland.

"Nice start... The way Nel (Nathan Ellis) and Zamps (Adam Zampa) bowled... was exceptional. - Travis Head"

Colombo, February 11

Travis Head, Australia's stand-in captain, expressed satisfaction with their win against Ireland in the ongoing T20 World Cup, calling it a "nice start" to the tournament.

He praised Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa's exceptional bowling in the second innings, highlighting their importance as leaders of Australia's attack in the tournament.

Australia registered a commanding victory over Ireland in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup clash, winning by 67 runs after restricting the visitors to just 115 runs on Wednesday in Colombo.

Backed by a disciplined bowling performance and crucial contributions with the bat, the Aussies dominated the contest from start to finish, marking a strong start to their campaign.

Ellis (4/12) and Zampa (4/23) scalped four wickets each.

"Nice start. Obviously, it's nice to get into the tournament. I thought everyone played really, really well, so positive note. The way Nel (Nathan Ellis) and Zamps (Adam Zampa) bowled throughout the second innings was exceptional. So, it's what we need from them too, they are probably the leaders of our attack," Head said after the match.

Mitchell Marsh, who was set to lead the team, missed the game after sustaining a direct blow to the groin during training earlier this week.

The injury has caused internal testicular bleeding, and Marsh will require rest and rehabilitation before returning to the field. Head led the team in is absences.

Australia will next face Zimbabwe on Friday at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Oof, that injury to Mitchell Marsh sounds incredibly painful. Wishing him a speedy recovery. It's good to see Travis Head stepping up as captain. Australia looks strong, but the real test will be against teams like India and England.

Ireland was never going to be a big challenge for them. Beating a top team is what counts. Let's see how they fare later in the tournament. Our Indian team needs to be wary of this Australian bowling attack, especially on these pitches.

Respectful criticism: While it was a commanding win, the article and Head's comments feel a bit... standard? "Nice start, everyone played well" is the most generic captain's statement ever. Would love more insight into their strategy moving forward.

Good to start with a win, but the tournament is long. Australia has the habit of peaking at the right time. As an Indian, I just hope we don't meet them in the knockout stages! 😅 Ellis's figures of 4/12 are seriously impressive.

The depth in the Australian squad is scary. Their main captain gets injured, and Travis Head just walks in and leads them to a 67-run win without breaking a sweat. They are always a tough opponent, no matter who plays. All the best to Team India!
