Nagaland: Jitan Ram Manjhi calls for effective implementation of MSME schemes
Kohima, May 20
Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday stressed the need for effective implementation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises-related initiatives and called upon officials to work collectively to ensure the welfare and economic development of the people.
The Union Minister, who is on a two-day visit to Nagaland, on Wednesday held a review meeting with officers of various departments from Longleng district at the Police Complex, Chumoukedima.
During the meeting, Manjhi reviewed developmental activities and discussed the implementation status of various Government of India schemes and programmes in the district.
Officials from different departments presented reports and briefed the Minister and the visiting Central team on ongoing projects, achievements, challenges, and areas requiring further support and coordination.
The visiting Central team informed that the review was being conducted as per the directives of PM Modi to assess the ground realities and the district's developmental needs.
The team stated that all findings, feedback, and reports gathered during the visit would be compiled and submitted to the Prime Minister's Office and the concerned Union Ministries for necessary action.
Dimapur District Planning and Development Board Chairman and local Member of Legislative Assembly (Longleng), A. Pongshi Phom, expressed gratitude to the visiting Central delegation and appreciated the Government of India for implementing people-centric welfare schemes and developmental programmes across the country.
He stated that the meeting would have a positive impact on people's lives and further strengthen developmental initiatives in the district.
The District Planning and Development Board Chairman lauded the Government of India, under the leadership of PM Modi, for initiating programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, the economy, livelihoods, and public welfare.
He stated that inclusive development was reaching even remote areas and benefiting every section of society.
Highlighting various centrally sponsored schemes, Phom noted that initiatives in agriculture, health, education, rural development, solar energy, industry, electricity, social security, and welfare sectors were significantly improving people's living standards.
He further stated that the Department of Industries and Commerce in Longleng district was playing an important role in empowering youth through self-employment opportunities.
Schemes such as the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme, he said, were helping young entrepreneurs establish businesses and generate employment opportunities for others.
The Member of Legislative Assembly also appreciated the Chief Minister's Micro Finance Initiative launched by the Government of Nagaland in August 2022, stating that the programme had greatly supported private enterprises and transformed many lives in rural areas.
He added that the Government of Nagaland, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, remained committed to the welfare and development of the people despite various challenges.
In the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the National Oil Palm Mission, during which the visiting team enquired about the progress of plantation activities and the benefits being extended to farmers and local communities.
The team also interacted with district authorities to understand the needs and priorities of the people, particularly in agriculture, livelihoods, and infrastructure development.
Officials highlighted the importance of proper coordination among departments for the effective implementation of welfare schemes.
After the review meeting, Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi appreciated the efforts of the district administration and various departments of Longleng for implementing developmental and welfare schemes in the district.
He encouraged the officers to continue working with dedication and commitment to ensure that government programmes effectively reach the grassroots level and benefit the people.
The Union Minister also emphasised the importance of coordination among departments for the timely and successful implementation of ongoing projects and developmental initiatives.
Assuring the district of support, he stated that the Union Government and his ministry would continue to extend assistance and cooperation for the overall development and progress of Longleng district.

PMEGP and CM's Micro Finance Initiative are good schemes but implementation is still slow in many blocks. Youth here want to start businesses but face problems with paperwork and bank loans. Hope this review actually leads to faster clearances and more awareness camps in villages.
Oil Palm Mission in Nagaland? That's interesting. I hope they're consulting local farmers and not just imposing crops. Naga jhum farmers know their land best - need proper training and market linkages, not just targets. Let's see if this actually benefits the Adivasi and Naga communities.
One thing I appreciate - at least they mentioned Longleng, a district most people can't even locate on a map. But real talk: how many of these schemes actually reach the last mile? Our village still has no proper road to transport goods. Infrastructure first, then MSMEs can flourish.
Good coordination between Centre and State is visible here. Manjhi ji seems genuinely interested in ground-level work. But I hope the review doesn't just become a photo-op. Nagaland needs sustained attention, especially for handloom, bamboo, and tourism-related MSMEs.
MLA Pongshi Phom's appreciation is well-placed - the Central schemes are genuinely helping. But we need more than just meetings. Our SHG group applied for Mudra loan 6 months back, still waiting. Speed and transparency are the real issues. Still, good step by the Ministry.
