Mumbai Port Authority celebrated its 154th Foundation Day on Thursday and as part of celebrations presented 63 projects with a combined value of Rs 5,028.17 crore across three phases, an official statement said.

These projects include seven for inauguration worth Rs 132.29 crore, 34 for foundation‑stone laying totalling Rs 1,354.59 crore and 22 projects for announcements worth Rs 3,541.29 crore, the statement from Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said.

Senior policy makers noted that the port carries a strong legacy, and also embraces the future through initiatives in cruise tourism, waterfront development, green practices and efficient utilization of port assets.

They highlighted the port's highest-ever cargo throughput of 70 million tonnes and emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration in driving growth, efficiency and service excellence.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated the port on 154 years of service and recalled its role in Mumbai's rise as India's financial and commercial capital.

He said that every achievement of the institution is the collective contribution of its officers, employees, workers, port users and other stakeholders.

He also highlighted initiatives such as the International Cruise Terminal, ferry jetty projects, Jawahar Dweep reclamation and energy infrastructure projects being undertaken by Mumbai Port Authority.

A Foundation Day video was screened during the program, presenting the journey of Mumbai Port Authority and its contribution to India's maritime sector.

The programme also witnessed the exchange of the Indira Dock O&M Agreement and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement. These agreements form part of Mumbai Port Authority's ongoing efforts towards strengthening port operations, waterfront development and optimal utilization of port assets.

70 million tonnes cargo throughput — that's impressive! 🚢 Mumbai Port has been the backbone of our trade since colonial times. Happy to see green practices being included, hope they implement solar power and waste management seriously.

Foundation Day video and all is fine, but what about the pollution around the port area? The nearby residential colonies suffer from dust and noise. Hope these 'green practices' include real monitoring and accountability, not just photo ops.

Jawahar Dweep reclamation and energy projects — that's the future we need. India's maritime logistics is crucial for Atmanirbhar Bharat. Kudos to the minister for recognizing the port's role in Mumbai's financial status. 👏

As someone in logistics, I can say Mumbai Port's 70 million tonne milestone is no joke. But the infrastructure needs to keep pace with the cargo growth — road connectivity to the port is still a nightmare during monsoon. Hope the projects address this.

The Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement sounds promising — imagine proper waterfront development like Marine Drive but more accessible! But please ensure transparency in tenders and avoid cost overruns that plague our mega projects. 🤞
