"We should all comply with his appeal - CM Mohan Yadav"

Bhopal, May 11

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to citizens to adopt conservation measures in the wake of the global crisis and asked people to follow the suggestions in the national interest.

Chief Minister Yadav discussed the Prime Minister's appeal with the Council of Ministers during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday, according to a statement from his office.

"PM Modi has urged citizens to adopt various measures for conservation in the national interest, given the current global crisis and challenges to supply chains. We should all comply with his appeal," Chief Minister Yadav said.

The Prime Minister has asked citizens to make the most of public transport services and to promote working from home and virtual meetings.

He has stressed the need to prioritise online and video conferencing systems to reduce fuel consumption.

For farmers, the appeal includes a shift from diesel-powered pumps to solar pumps and a move towards natural farming by reducing the use of chemical fertilisers.

The aim is to reduce the country's import of petroleum products and fertilisers.

The Prime Minister has also called for greater use of Indian Railways' freight train services to transport goods, easing pressure on supply chains during the global crisis.

"In accordance with the Prime Minister's appeal, citizens should defer international travel plans for at least one year and explore domestic tourist destinations instead. The general public should also contribute by using public transport or electric vehicles to save fuel," Chief Minister Yadav said.

He added that people have been urged to avoid purchasing gold for one year and to reduce household consumption of cooking oil.

Yadav said the state government will coordinate with departments to promote the measures.

Awareness campaigns will be run to encourage public transport use, virtual meetings, solar pumps, and natural farming.

He said the state will review government travel and meeting protocols to align with the appeal.

Departments related to agriculture, transport, and tourism have been asked to prepare action plans to support the conservation measures.

Finally someone talking about solar pumps for farmers! My uncle in MP spent lakhs on diesel last year just for irrigation. If the government gives proper subsidies and easy loans, this could be a game-changer for rural India. 🙏

All this talk about saving fuel is good, but what about poor public transport in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities? In Indore, buses are overcrowded and don't run on time. People use personal vehicles because there's no reliable alternative. Fix infrastructure first, then ask us to use public transport.

Reducing cooking oil consumption? In a country where we deep-fry everything? 😂 On a serious note, I've already started using an electric scooter for my daily commute to work in Bhopal. Saves me ₹3000 per month on petrol. Small changes do make a difference.

As a farmer from Khargone, I welcome the push for natural farming. But the government must provide proper training and market linkages. We've been using chemical fertilisers for decades; switching overnight isn't practical. Start with pilot projects and give us time to adapt.

Deferring international travel for a year? My family had planned a trip to Thailand this December after saving for 2 years. Now we'll explore Kerala instead! At least we're supporting domestic tourism. Every cloud has a silver lining. ☁️✨
