MP CM unveils metro city plan, Rs 397 crore package for Jabalpur

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday announced a major development package for Jabalpur, including a plan to develop the state's cultural capital into a metropolitan city within the next year.
Addressing a public programme during his day-long visit, Yadav said he has directed officials to prepare a draft proposal for the metro city plan. He also announced Sandipani schools in all Assembly constituencies of the district and unveiled projects aimed at improving civic infrastructure and public services.
"Jabalpur will be developed into a metropolitan city within the next one year. Officials have been instructed to prepare the proposal immediately," Yadav said.
Notably, Jabalpur has been waiting for the Police Commissionerate system for the last five years since it was introduced in Bhopal and Indore in 2021.
During his visit, the Chief Minister dedicated development projects worth Rs 397 crore to the district. These include the AMRUT 1.0 sewerage project, three sewage treatment plants at Kathonda, Lalpur and Tevar, and a plantation drive to plant 11 lakh saplings. He said the projects would make Jabalpur cleaner, greener and more liveable.
He inaugurated a new police station at Maharajpura. He announced expansion of residential facilities in police barracks due to the regular movement of police personnel to Jabalpur, which houses the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
He also inaugurated 96 police constable quarters, a divisional police office and a new Tilwara police station building.
"Service and good governance are the foundation of a prosperous Madhya Pradesh. We are committed to strengthening development and improving public services," Yadav said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government's efforts to modernise policing through technology and said over 18,000 police personnel had been recruited. At the same time, more than 25,000 promotion cases had been cleared in the state.

Great initiative for infrastructure, but I wish they'd also focus on improving the basic amenities first - water supply and drainage in old areas are still problematic. The AMRUT sewerage project is a good start though. Let's hope the 11 lakh saplings actually survive this time!
Interesting to see the development push in central India. The focus on police infrastructure with new stations and quarters is a positive sign - proper facilities matter for law enforcement morale. 18,000 new recruits is substantial too. Hope this translates into better safety for citizens.
The metro city plan sounds ambitious, but what about the small traders and local businesses who will be displaced during construction? Development should not come at their expense. Also, will the Sandipani schools follow the state curriculum or are they just another promise? 🤔
The plantation drive of 11 lakh saplings is commendable! But I hope they choose indigenous species and ensure proper maintenance. In many places, such campaigns are just photo ops. The new police stations are a practical need - with the High Court here, there's always movement of personnel. Good to see the CM addressing that.
Considering Bhopal and Indore got the Police Commissionerate in 2021 and Jabalpur is still waiting - this delay of 5 years says a lot. But better late than never! The announcement is welcome, but let's hold them accountable for the deadlines. Development works should be time-bound, yaar!
