MP CM meets Union Ministers, seeks cooperation on water, environment

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday held separate meetings with two senior Union Ministers in New Delhi, seeking greater Centre-State coordination on water management, environmental conservation and development projects.
Yadav met Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and discussed issues related to water resource management, expansion of irrigation facilities, drinking water availability and water conservation in Madhya Pradesh.
The discussions also covered strengthening water infrastructure and ensuring effective implementation of Jal Shakti projects through closer coordination between the Centre and the state government, according to an official statement.
The Chief Minister thanked the Union government for its continued support to Madhya Pradesh's development initiatives.
In another meeting, Yadav called on Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav.
The two leaders discussed issues concerning environmental conservation, employment generation, public welfare and measures to accelerate development works in the state. They also emphasised improving coordination between the Centre and the state for effective implementation of welfare schemes.
Before these meetings, the Chief Minister attended the 7th International Renewable Energy Conference in New Delhi, where he said Madhya Pradesh was committed to contributing to India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030.
Addressing the event, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh's renewable energy capacity had increased from 438 MW to nearly 11,000 MW over the past 12 years.
He noted that the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project had become the first in the country to achieve a solar tariff lower than coal-based power generation. In contrast, the 1,500 MW Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch solar project achieved a tariff of Rs 2.14 per unit and is supplying green power to the Indian Railways.
He also highlighted the state's 278 MW floating solar project, battery energy storage projects in Morena, rooftop solar installations on government buildings and the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

The renewable energy figures are impressive! From 438 MW to 11,000 MW is no small feat. The Rewa solar project setting a record for low tariffs shows what public-private partnership can achieve. But we need to ensure local communities benefit too.
Centre-State coordination is always a good thing, especially for a state like ours. But I hope the CM is also pushing for more funds for river interlinking projects. Water scarcity in summer is still a reality for many villages.
Interesting to see the emphasis on renewable energy in MP. The floating solar project and battery storage initiatives are forward-looking. Let's hope the state also focuses on the decommissioning of old coal plants and just transition for workers. 🌱
All this is good, but what about the implementation? We've seen many MoUs and meetings before. The real test is whether farmers get water on time and whether solar projects actually power our grid reliably. बाकी तो सब ठीक है.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a great step for households. But we need more awareness in rural areas. Many people still don't know how to apply. Hope the state government is doing enough outreach.
