MP CM asks officials to link more farmers with welfare schemes

Bhopal, July 3

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday directed officials to ensure that the maximum number of eligible farmers are brought under government welfare schemes through direct outreach, while reviewing the implementation of the state's 'Farmers' Welfare Year-2026'.

Chairing a meeting at the Mantralaya, the Chief Minister said the success of the campaign would depend on how effectively government schemes reached farmers across the state.

"Effective implementation of all schemes in mission mode must be ensured to reduce farming costs, increase farmers' income and make agriculture more profitable. The maximum number of eligible farmers should be linked to government schemes through direct engagement, and the cultivation of low-water-consuming crops, as well as natural and organic farming, should be encouraged," Yadav said in a statement.

The Chief Minister also reviewed initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and directed officials to promote sustainable farming practices across the state.

To strengthen allied sectors, Mohan Yadav asked officials to expand dairy infrastructure and improve access to quality livestock for farmers.

"To boost milk production, high-breed cows should be made available to farmers with the support of private entities, and dairy centres should be expanded in rural areas," he further stated.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also instructed officials to complete the digitisation of cooperative society processes and ensure the timely launch of the online Kisan Credit Card portal and e-passbook facility.

He further reviewed preparations for the Vegetable Festival and Aquaculture Marketing Symposium in Indore and directed officials to ensure their smooth organisation.

Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kanshana and senior officials attended the meeting and briefed the Chief Minister on programmes being implemented under the Farmers' Welfare Year-2026 campaign, including efforts to improve technology adoption, market linkages and delivery of government schemes.

Digitisation of cooperative societies and Kisan Credit Card online portal – this is long overdue. My uncle in Bundelkhand still queues for hours at the bank. Hope the e-passbook reaches remote villages on time, not just on paper. 👩‍🌾

Good intent, but 'linking farmers to schemes' sounds like typical bureaucratic jargon. The real test is awareness – most small farmers don't even know what schemes exist. CM should hold direct village-level camps, not just meetings in Bhopal. 🤔

High-breed cows and dairy expansion? Great, but what about fodder availability? My cousin in Gwalior had to sell his Jersey cow because dry fodder cost more than milk. Schemes without input support are incomplete. Still, progress is progress. 🐄

Vegetable Festival and Aquaculture symposium in Indore – love that they're promoting diverse farming. My mother-in-law in Malwa has started kitchen garden after seeing local fairs. More such events in smaller towns please! 🍅🐟

'Reduce farming costs and increase income' – easier said than done. Fertiliser prices have doubled, and water table is depleting. Unless they provide direct subsidy on inputs and promote micro-irrigation, this will remain a wish list. Hope they walk the talk. 🌾
