Paramount has revealed the release date of the long-awaited film adaptation of the video game 'Call of Duty' at the CinemaCon 2026. The movie is set to release in theatres on June 30, 2028, reported Variety.

Pete Berg is set to direct the film from a script by Taylor Sheridan. "Taylor and I are both deeply connected to the special ops community," Berg said in a video message to the annual convention of movie theatre owners, as quoted in Variety.

The 'Deepwater Horizon' director said he and super-creator Sheridan are prioritising authenticity among the group of elite soldiers "on a human level, but also bring amazing scale."

'Call of Duty' is one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time counting 1 billion players and a lifetime revenue of 35 billion USD, which made a generation believe "there's a soldier in all of us," as reported by Variety.

Plot details and cast for the 'Call of Duty' film haven't been revealed, but the game is a first-person shooter military series, reported Variety.

Paramount has had success adapting games into movies, turning 'Sonic the Hedgehog' into a major film and streaming franchise. Video games have also inspired notable recent blockbusters, such as 'Super Mario Bros.' and 'A Minecraft Movie.'

'Call of Duty' is backed by Microsoft-owned video game publisher Activision. It encompasses more than 30 mainline games released since the original 'Call of Duty' debuted in 2003.

When the deal to make a movie was announced in September, sources said that while the pact is focused on making one 'Call of Duty' movie, the deal includes the potential for Paramount to expand the "Call of Duty" universe across film and TV, reported Variety.

June 2028? That's a four-year wait! By then my kids will be old enough to watch it with me. Paramount better deliver on the "amazing scale" they're promising.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Video game movies have a bad track record, but Sonic and Mario were fun. I just hope the story has some depth and isn't just non-stop shooting. The human level focus is key.

With that budget and franchise power, they should definitely film some scenes in India! The Himalayan or desert landscapes would be perfect for a military op. Just saying! 🇮🇳

Respectfully, I hope they move beyond the typical "American hero saves the world" narrative. The gaming community is global. The film's perspective should reflect that.

Taylor Sheridan writing it gives me hope! Yellowstone was brilliant. If he brings that kind of gritty, character-driven storytelling to a war movie, it could be special. Fingers crossed!
