'Moment beyond words': Inaugural flight lands at Noida International Airport as BJP MLA hails historic day

New Delhi, June 15

The inaugural flight from Lucknow landed at Noida International Airport at 7:55 a.m. on Monday, marking the commencement of commercial operations at the newly developed airport.

The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28.

As the aircraft touched down on the runway, passengers applauded the successful landing of the inaugural flight. The aircraft was also given a traditional water cannon salute, marking the symbolic beginning of operations at the airport.

Ahead of the arrival, excited families, farmers and groups of women farmers -- many of whom were taking their first-ever flight -- gathered at the airport. Their expressions reflected anticipation, curiosity and joy as they prepared for a journey they said they had never imagined making.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh described the moment as historic and deeply emotional for the region.

"This is a moment beyond words. Now, everyone is waiting for the aircraft to take off with the farmers on board. Farmers will see their land from the windows of the plane and remember how they did farming and earned for their children. Earlier, farming was the only source of livelihood, but today people in the region have multiple opportunities. They can improve their standard of living, provide better education to their children, and explore new avenues of employment and business..."

Yamuna Authority CEO Rakesh Kumar Singh said the launch reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making air travel accessible to all.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had envisioned a future where even an ordinary citizen wearing slippers could travel by air. Today, through Noida International Airport and under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, that vision is becoming a reality. The first flight from the airport is carrying farmers from this region to Lucknow to meet and thank the Chief Minister. This is a matter of great pride and happiness for all of us..."

Officials said the inaugural arrival from Lucknow at the airport marks a key operational milestone as Noida International Airport begins commercial operations. The airport, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister earlier this year, is now gradually moving towards full-fledged passenger services.

After the symbolic inaugural flight carrying farmers who contributed land for the project, regular commercial operations are expected to begin, with authorities aiming to connect the region with major cities across India.

The development is being seen as a major step toward improving connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh and surrounding regions, with officials highlighting its potential to boost employment, mobility and economic opportunities for rural communities.

Wonderful step but I hope the government doesn't forget the farmers who gave their land. Many are still waiting for proper compensation and rehabilitation. The water cannon salute is great, but let's see how the common person benefits in the long run. Action speaks louder than symbolism.

As someone who travels between Noida and Lucknow frequently, this is a game-changer. The road journey takes 8-9 hours. This airport will save time and boost business connectivity across western UP. Proud moment for our region! 🛬

Another airport, another photo op. Meanwhile, the common man still struggles with basic infrastructure - bad roads, erratic electricity, and expensive air tickets. Let's celebrate when flights are actually affordable for farmers and daily wage workers, not just for politicians and businessmen.

My father was a farmer in Jewar who never even boarded a train, let alone a plane. Seeing those women farmers on the flight makes me emotional. This airport represents hope - for our children to dream beyond the fields. Emotional beyond words, really. ❤️

I moved from the UK to work in Noida last year. This airport will make international business travel so much easier. But I'm most impressed by how the community is being included - those farmers on the first flight tells you something about India's values. Well done!
