"The visit by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla...symbolises our modern society's enduring commitment to freedom and human potential. - Melania Trump"

Washington, April 30

First Lady Melania Trump hosted King Charles III and Queen Camilla for a state visit that combined formal diplomacy with a technology-driven educational program, the White House said.

"The visit by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on the 250th anniversary of our nation transcends ceremony. It symbolises our modern society's enduring commitment to freedom and human potential," the First Lady said in a statement on Thursday.

Trump led a cross-cultural educational experience for American students as part of her "Fostering the Future Together" initiative. The programme used virtual reality (VR) to connect students to British heritage sites and historical landmarks.

"The students enjoyed a groundbreaking educational experience which brought them to Buckingham Palace through the use of VR, while physically standing on the White House Tennis Pavilion grounds," she said.

Among the participants were Presidential AI Challenge State Champions, who interacted with Queen Camilla and the First Lady after removing their headsets. The discussions focused on the landmarks they had virtually explored and their learning experience.

The visit also included a formal State Dinner at the White House. "I was honoured to host Their Majesties for a State Dinner that reflected the warmth and history shared between our countries," Trump said.

The dinner followed a white-tie dress code. The setting featured floral arrangements inspired by British gardens, cascading candelabras, and live music performances. The menu included a beehive-shaped gateau made with honey sourced from White House beehives.

Guests included figures from government, technology, business, sports, and culture. Officials said the event was designed to showcase American hospitality, heritage, and craftsmanship.

The state visit included multiple engagements highlighting ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. The President and the First Lady hosted the British monarch and Queen Camilla at a series of events focused on shared history, cooperation, and bilateral engagement.

These included a visit to the expanded White House beehive and a state arrival ceremony with full military honours. The ceremony featured a 21-gun salute and a military pass in review involving nearly 500 members of the US Armed Forces.

From the arrival ceremony to the final engagements, officials said the visit underscored cooperation across diplomacy, education, and innovation. The White House described the events as reflecting the enduring partnership between the two countries.

"The First Lady is proud to have led the preparations for the visit -- honouring tradition while embracing the promise of the future," the statement said.

The United States and the United Kingdom have long maintained close political, economic, and security ties. High-level visits such as state visits and formal dinners are used to reaffirm cooperation and shared interests.

King Charles III's visit comes as both countries continue to coordinate on global challenges and strategic priorities.

I'm impressed by the VR education initiative. Using technology to make history accessible is a great idea. Our schools in India could learn from this - imagine students virtually visiting the Red Fort during history class!

Interesting how they're using technology to build bridges. The Presidential AI Challenge State Champions participating is a nice touch. But let's be honest, the world's problems won't be solved by fancy VR dinners while millions go hungry. Just my two paise.

The white-tie dinner with beehive cake sounds like something straight out of a royalty movie! 🎥 But I hope they also discussed real issues facing the world like climate change and migration. Though knowing our politicians, it was probably all about photo ops.

As an Indian who lived in London for years, I appreciate the symbolic importance of this visit. The Royal family and White House together creates a powerful image. But does this really help the common citizen? We need less pomp and more substance in diplomacy.

The VR education component is genuinely innovative. I wish our education system in India would adopt such experiential learning tools. Instead of just memorizing dates, students could virtually walk through the Battle of Plassey or visit ancient Nalanda University.
