New Delhi, May 18

BJP MP, Manoj Tiwari, on Monday participated in the 'Metro Monday' campaign by travelling in the Delhi Metro and an electric auto along with NDMC Vice Chairman, Kuljeet Singh Chahal, while also promoting Electric Vehicle adoption through a new parking rebate initiative in the national Capital.

The campaign, following the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, focussed on encouraging the use of public transport and clean energy vehicles.

As part of the initiative, Manoj Tiwari and Kuljeet Singh Chahal travelled through the city using public transport and interacted with commuters to understand their daily travel experiences and gather suggestions.

Speaking to IANS, Manoj Tiwari said the interaction with passengers during the journey was a memorable experience.

"We had the opportunity to interact with so many people. One person told me, 'I want to meet you,' and I invited him the next day. Some people shared their experiences that they travel by Metro regularly. Their homes are about 500-600 metres from the Metro station, so they walk to the station and then continue their journey," he said.

He further said that many commuters regularly travel between Gurugram and Noida using the Metro network.

"It was a pleasure meeting all these people, and we also enjoyed the experience of travelling ourselves. Everyone, please follow," he MP added.

During the campaign, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) also launched a scheme offering a 50 per cent discount on parking charges for EVs in Connaught Place to encourage EV adoption and reduce pollution levels in the city.

Tiwari and Chahal distributed parking passes under the scheme and appealed to residents to adopt EVs as part of efforts towards environmental protection and sustainable urban development.

Calling it an important step towards clean energy promotion, the leader said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of building an environmentally conscious and sustainable India under the campaigns 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan' and 'EV India'.

Manoj Tiwari ji travelling in Metro and talking to passengers is a great gesture. But I wish more politicians would do this regularly, not just for photo ops. The parking rebate is a smart move though - every little step helps in reducing Delhi's pollution.

Finally some practical action! Metro connectivity between Noida and Gurugram is a lifesaver for daily commuters. And the EV parking discount in CP is much needed. Hope they extend this to other parking lots too. Delhi needs more such initiatives. 🚇🔋

I've been using Metro for 5 years. It's affordable and efficient. But the last mile connectivity is still a problem. If they really want to promote public transport, they need more feeder buses and safe walking paths to stations. Still, good to see MPs noticing these issues.

EV parking rebate is good, but what about affordable EVs for middle class? The upfront cost is still too high. And the Metro campaign - nice gesture, but I hope this isn't just election season drama. Need consistent action to really make a difference. 🤔

Respect to Manoj Tiwari for actually taking the Metro and talking to people. Many politicians would never do that. The 50% parking discount for EVs in CP is a step in the right direction. India needs more such practical environmental initiatives, not just speeches. Great work! 👏
