Imphal, April 22
Security forces in Manipur have recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition along the India-Myanmar border and, in a separate operation, dismantled six illegal bunkers in the mountainous Kangpokpi district, officials said on Wednesday.
A senior police official stated that the recoveries were made from the India-Myanmar border region under the Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
The seized items include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, one carbine with a magazine, four Improvised Explosive Devices, and two Motorola radio sets.
The Improvised Explosive Devices were safely destroyed on the spot.
Five districts in Manipur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kamjong, and Ukhrul, share an unfenced border of approximately 400 km with Myanmar.
The official added that security forces also destroyed six illegal bunkers in areas under the Saikul police station in the hilly Kangpokpi district.
Additionally, 12 empty cases of 7.62 mm ammunition were recovered from the site.
In ongoing operations, security forces have earlier demolished more than 100 illegally constructed bunkers built by militant outfits and armed cadres belonging to various groups.
Security forces, comprising both central and state agencies, continue extensive crackdowns on militant activities.
Search operations and area domination exercises are being conducted in fringe, mixed-population, and vulnerable areas across multiple districts.
To curb the movement of illegal elements and suspicious vehicles, a total of 112 nakas (checkpoints) have been set up across Manipur in both valley and hill districts.
Security personnel are also providing escorts to vehicles, including trucks transporting essential commodities, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (National Highway 37).
Strict security arrangements and convoy protection measures remain in place in sensitive stretches to ensure the safe movement of vehicles.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police have urged the public not to believe rumours and to remain cautious of fake videos circulating on social media.
A police statement warned that the veracity of any circulation of unfounded videos or audio clips may be confirmed from the Central Control Room and that uploading and circulating fake posts on social media will attract legal action.
