Manipur CM meets Rijiju, Shah; discusses development, polls

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss development and welfare issues concerning the state. The CM sought assistance for minority community projects and also discussed the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections scheduled for early next year. Earlier, Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured full central support and agreed to lay the foundation stone of the new Senapati Medical College during his proposed visit to Manipur in October.

Manipur CM meets Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, discusses issues concerning state

New Delhi/Imphal, Aug 26 Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday met Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi and discussed a wide range of issues concerning the state, officials said.

A senior official of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Imphal said that Khemchand Singh met Rijiju at the Union Minister's official residence in New Delhi, and the two leaders discussed various issues related to the development and welfare of Manipur.

Khemchand Singh requested the Union Minister to help the development and welfare of minority communities in the state, the official said. The Chief Minister sought help from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs on various developmental projects. "The two leaders also discussed issues relating to the Manipur Assembly elections slated for early next year," the CMO official said.

Rijiju assured Khemchand Singh that his ministry will provide all possible help to the state. The Union Minister is a native of Arunachal Pradesh and has a close connection with Manipur.

Taking to X, Union Minister Rijiju wrote: "Met with the Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh ji, in New Delhi. Had a meaningful interaction on the development and progress of Manipur and the welfare of its people. I appreciate his efforts to implement all the schemes extended by Narendra Modi ji's Govt for Manipur."

Earlier in the day, the Manipur Chief Minister also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed various issues of the Northeastern state. The CMO official in Imphal said that the Home Minister promised the Chief Minister of the Centre's full support when Khemchand Singh called on HM Shah at his official residence in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.

The CMO official said that the Home Minister would also visit Manipur in the first week of October this year and, during his visit, lay the foundation stone of the new Senapati Medical College and review various developmental projects in the state.

The Manipur Chief Minister said that HM Shah had agreed to lay the foundation stone of the new medical college in Senapati district during his proposed visit to the state.
