Maharashtra: Western Railway suspend trains between Gholvad and Umargam amid rising water levels

Rail traffic on the section between Gholvad and Umargam stations has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure due to rising water levels at Railway Bridge No. 203 affecting some train services.
In view of the situation, premier high-speed and superfast routes connecting Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar Capital will be impacted.
Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad Gujarat Superfast Express, Mumbai Central - Gandhinagar Capital - Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express, and Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad - Mumbai Central Shatabdi Express will remain cancelled on Thursday.
The railway authorities have requested the passengers to check the latest status of their trains before commencing their journey and to follow official notifications issued by the Railways.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange Alert' for Mumbai amid the heavy rainfall for today, with prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, accompanied by occasional strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph, gusting very likely to reach 70 kmph.
Moreover, Mumbai will remain under 'Yellow Alert' on Friday and Saturday.
The IMD has also issued a 'Red Alert' for Thane and Palghar districts. As per the IMD predictions, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected, accompanied by strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph, gusting very likely to reach 70 kmph for Thane and Palghar.

Living in Mumbai, I'm used to these disruptions every monsoon. But calling off Vande Bharat and Shatabdi seems drastic. Hope they have alternative transport arranged for daily commuters. Better safe than sorry though! 🌧️
Our infrastructure just can't handle 50-60 kmph winds on a normal day, let alone extreme weather. Red alert for Thane and Palghar - those areas are already waterlogged from last week. Railway should run special buses or something. Kuch toh karo! 🚆💨
Full marks to Western Railway for prioritizing passenger safety. But honestly, this happens every year - why not strengthen the railway bridges? Crores spent on bullet train but local infrastructure still vulnerable. Jaan hai toh jahan hai. 🙏
As an expat working in Mumbai, this monsoon chaos is new to me. Cancelled trains between Gholvad and Umargam - hope the update system works. Last time I waited 3 hours for a train that never came. Indian Railways needs better real-time communication. 🙂
Thane resident here - Red alert is no joke. Yesterday our society was knee-deep in water. Railway bridge 203 near Gholvad always floods first, they should have built a higher bridge years ago. But at least this time they acted before any accident. Safety first, business later. 🌊
