Maharashtra CM Fadnavis delays MPSC computer-based exams rollout till August 2027

Following the consistent demands made by various student organisations, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting in Mumbai with Maharashtra Public Service Commission Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, and senior officials from the General Administration Department.
According to an official release from Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO), during the meeting, CM Fadnavis said, "Ensuring a secure and transparent recruitment process has always been my priority. Accordingly, the examination system must also be transparent. Examinations should be conducted on time, and their results should also be declared within the stipulated time."
"However, while implementing these reforms, the transition from the existing system to a new one must be smooth. Every concerned agency should be given sufficient time to prepare for the changes," he added.
As per a release, the Chief Minister said that, therefore, these reforms should be implemented in a phased manner, and the computer-based examination (CBT) system should not be introduced immediately. Instead, it should be implemented from August 2027. This will provide adequate time for students to prepare and for all the concerned agencies to enhance their readiness. Until then, examinations should continue to be conducted under the existing system.
"The MPSC should now take the necessary decision in this regard," he added.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the various initiatives undertaken by the MPSC during the meeting, a release added.

This is good in theory but what about the students who have been preparing for pen-paper exams for years? They'll be forced to adapt to a new system suddenly. The delay till 2027 is sensible, but I hope the government uses this time to set up computer labs in every district, not just in cities. Thoda practical approach chahiye!
As someone who works in tech, I appreciate the transparency angle. But 2027? That's a long wait. The UPSC already uses CBT successfully. Why can't MPSC learn from that? Seems like needless bureaucracy. Acha hota agar 2025 tak implement kar lete.
Student organizations have been demanding CBT for years to reduce paper leaks and corruption. Now when the govt agrees, they say "give us time"? 😅 At least they're listening. But I hope the existing system doesn't get compromised in the meantime. Also, what about mock tests for practice?
I'm a MPSC aspirant from a small town in Vidarbha. We don't even have reliable electricity, forget computers! This decision is a blessing for us. At least till 2027, we can continue with pen-paper. But please, government, spend this time improving digital infrastructure in villages. Otherwise, 2027 will also be a problem. Ek kaam karo to sahi karo 🙏
Fadnavis says "smooth transition" but I'm skeptical. Every time they delay something, it's for "preparation." Meanwhile, exam patterns keep changing and students suffer. At least give us a clear roadmap of what infrastructure will be built. Otherwise this is just another promise to be forgotten.
