Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes US state of Alaska

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the US State of Alaska.
The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred 76 kilometres southeast of Atka at a depth of 16.7 kilometres.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Living in Alaska, we barely feel these small ones anymore. It's the big ones we worry about. Good reminder to check our emergency kits though.
Every time I read about earthquakes elsewhere, I think about how vulnerable we are in the Himalayan region. Hope our authorities are learning from global experiences. Stay safe, Alaska!
Deep earthquake, 16.7 km depth, so ground shaking was less severe. USGS data is always reliable. No news is good news in this case.
Such a remote location, Atka is a tiny Aleutian island. Even if there was damage, it would take time to report. Glad to hear it's all clear though. Interesting how quickly this is global news.
Alaska is sparsely populated, so these quakes rarely cause issues. It's the ones near Anchorage that get scary. Good that this one was in the Aleutians.
Respect to USGS for monitoring these so efficiently. In India, we could improve our early warning systems for quakes in the northeast. Every country has lessons to share. 👍
