UP CM Yogi Adityanath flags off 250 electric & CNG vehicles for waste management, highlighting Lucknow's development and sustainable urban goals.

"In the last 9 years, Lucknow has achieved new heights of development. - CM Yogi Adityanath"

Lucknow, April 1

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday flagged off 250 electric and CNG vehicles powered by environmentally friendly green energy for better waste management by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation in Lucknow.

Addressing the event, the CM highlighted the development of Lucknow over the past nine years, emphasising improved living standards, infrastructural growth, and enhanced safety measures.

"In the last 9 years, Lucknow has achieved new heights of development. In nine years, the scope of Lucknow city has expanded, it has helped improve the standard of living of the people living here, and metro operations have started in Lucknow," said CM Yogi.

Adityanath emphasised his administration's commitment to sustainable development and solar energy integration across the state. "Ayodhya city has been developed as a solar city and Lucknow is also being made solar-equipped on the same lines... There is less discussion of good works, but we will do it so that it increases encouragement," the Chief Minister stated.

Focusing on urban safety, the CM touted the successful implementation of Smart City technologies and LED lighting in the state, drawing a contrast with previous governments, saying, "For those who had the habit of pulling off robberies in the darkness of night, the darkness was just fine. We, however, are worshippers of the sun... We have put LED street lights in every municipal council".

"We have fully covered 18 municipal bodies as safe cities by integrating them with the Integrated Command and Control Center through CCTV," he said, further announcing, "We have decided that we will convert the city bus service into an electric bus service".

Prior to the event, the Chief Minister emphasised the progress of Uttar Pradesh towards the goal of 'Zero Waste to Zero Carbon Emissions', crediting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering the state toward smart and environmentally conscious urbanisation.

"Under the successful guidance of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, the new Uttar Pradesh is establishing itself as a smart and world-class urban center, along with the goal of 'Zero Waste to Zero Carbon Emissions'. In this sequence, to ensure 'Ease of Living' for the residents of Lucknow, I will participate in the flag-off program of 250 electric and CNG vehicles of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, just a short while from now," the CM wrote on X.

CM Yogi described the vehicles as symbols of the double-engine government's commitment, emphasising their role in strengthening Lucknow's waste management infrastructure.

"These vehicles are symbols of the double-engine government's commitment to cleanliness, sustainable development, and environmental protection. Through them, efforts to make Lucknow clean, smart, and green will gain even more momentum," he said.

As someone who visited Lucknow last year, the infrastructure development is noticeable. The metro is a game-changer. Introducing eco-friendly municipal vehicles is a positive move for sustainability. However, the real test will be in consistent maintenance and ensuring these services reach all neighborhoods, not just the city center.

Good initiative, but I hope this isn't just for show. We need these vehicles to actually work on the ground and clear the garbage piles we still see in some areas. Also, converting city buses to electric is a big promise – hope it happens soon and fares remain affordable for the common man.

The LED street lights and safe city project with CCTVs have genuinely made a difference in feeling secure at night. If these new vehicles help keep the city cleaner, it's a win-win. UP is definitely changing its image. More power to such development work! 🙏

While I appreciate the focus on green energy, the article reads like a political speech. I wish there was more detail on the operational plan, budget, and timeline. 'Zero Waste to Zero Carbon' is a great slogan, but we need transparent, measurable steps to get there.

Investing in CNG and electric municipal fleets is a forward-thinking policy. It reduces pollution and operational costs in the long run. Other Indian states should take note. The integration with a command center for monitoring is particularly smart urban management.
