New Delhi, August 7
L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore, the offshore business arm of Larsen & Toubro, secured a batch of major orders from the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation for offshore engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning projects off India's west coast.
According to project classification details, the orders fall under the "Major" classification, which encompasses contracts valued between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore. Other project tiers include "Significant" (Rs 1,000 to 2,500 Cr), "Large" (Rs 2,500 to 5,000 Cr), "Major" (Rs 5,000 to 10,000 Cr), "Mega" (Rs 10,000 to 15,000 Cr), and "Ultra-Mega" carrying a total value exceeding Rs 15,000 crore.
The awarded projects include the Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP-X) and the Well Head Platforms Project. Under the scope of PRP-X, the business will handle the EPCIC of multiple subsea pipeline segments. The assignment also entails associated modification works across the offshore fields owned by ONGC. Meanwhile, the Well Head Platforms Project requires the EPCIC of four distinct Well Head Platforms off the west coast.

Rs 5,000-10,000 crore is no small amount. This is a significant boost to the domestic oil and gas infrastructure. Hope this creates thousands of jobs for our youth, especially in engineering and fabrication.
Finally some solid investment in west coast offshore projects. PRP-X pipeline replacement was long overdue. This will help reduce our import dependency on oil. Good strategic move by ONGC and L&T.
I appreciate the technical capabilities of L&T but let's also think about the environmental aspect. These offshore projects must follow strict safety and ecological guidelines. The Arabian Sea ecosystem is fragile. Hope they're using the latest green technologies.
As someone who's worked in the offshore industry, I can say L&T has indeed built a solid reputation. Their vessel fleet and in-house engineering are world-class. This is a strong endorsement from ONGC.
Good to see our public sector companies trusting Indian private giants like L&T. The more we build in-house, the less we depend on foreign contractors. This is how we become a developed nation. 💪
While I'm happy about these projects, I do hope there's proper transparency and timely execution. Our public infrastructure projects often face delays. Let's see if L&T can deliver on schedule
