LPG supply: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta warns hoarders, those inciting panic, says "very soon situation will return to normal"

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta warns against hoarding LPG and inciting panic, assures the public that the supply situation will normalize soon.

"The government has a strict stance against hoarding. We all must stand united when a crisis befalls the country. - Rekha Gupta"

New Delhi, March 15

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday urged people in the national capital to remain calm and exercise restraint amid concerns over the shortage of LPG supply and warned against those who attempted to hoard and create panic among the public.

Speaking to ANI, Rekha Gupta said the government had taken a strict stance against hoarding and warned those attempting to create panic among the public.

"The government has a strict stance against hoarding. We all must stand united when a crisis befalls the country," said Delhi CM Rekha Gupta.

"I also want to warn those people who are creating fear among the public and inciting them to hoard. This is working against the country," she added.

"In difficult times, let us all come together, exercise a little restraint, use alternative means, and very soon this entire situation will return to normal," CM Gupta assured.

Meanwhile, Domestic LPG supplies across the country remain stable and secure as oil marketing companies continue operations to ensure uninterrupted delivery to households. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and HP, confirmed that systems are geared to maintain a steady flow of cylinders.

The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) circulated an advisory for consumers to avoid panic bookings or visiting distributor premises, stating that such early bookings can delay deliveries for those who need cylinders urgently. The current distribution framework is designed to function without the need for physical visits to distributors, allowing consumers to book refills from their homes.

"Domestic LPG supply across the country remains fully secure and uninterrupted," a joint statement by the OMCs said on X.

The statement noted that unusual booking patterns could disrupt the timeline for others. "Unusually early or panic bookings can delay deliveries for others who need cylinders urgently. Let's ensure the system works smoothly for everyone. Book only when required. Every kitchen deserves its flame on time," the statement added.

To facilitate remote bookings, several digital and automated platforms are available. Consumers can use IVRS, SMS, mobile applications, missed call services, or official websites to request refills.

The OMCs emphasised that the regular distribution system is equipped to handle the demand.

Highlighting past examples, the companies reminded their commitment to maintaining the supply chain during the COVID period. "Even during the most challenging times, LPG continued to reach homes across the country," the statement read, ensuring that the teams are currently working "round the clock to keep your kitchens running"

The advisory encourages citizens to stay at home and rely on the existing delivery network. "Stay home. Stay assured. Your cylinder will reach you," the company stated, adding that the objective remains to ensure every kitchen receives its flame on time without unnecessary public gatherings at distribution centres.

As an expat living in Delhi, I appreciate the clear communication. The digital booking systems are quite efficient. The advisory makes sense - if everyone books early 'just in case', it will create artificial shortages for those who are genuinely out of gas.

While the assurance is welcome, I hope the government is also cracking down on black marketing. In my area, there are whispers of cylinders being sold at a premium. Strict action against those hoarders is a must. Jai Hind!

My mother was so worried. I've shown her this article and the OMC's statement on X. The missed call booking service is a lifesaver for her. Let's all be responsible citizens and not create a crisis where there isn't one.

Respectfully, the situation on the ground feels a bit different in some colonies. My delivery was delayed by 4 days. The systems are good, but perhaps the communication from local distributors needs to be as clear as the CM's statement to prevent anxiety.

Absolutely right! During COVID, our gas cylinder always came on time. We need to have the same faith now. Sharing this article in my family group to stop the panic. #StayCalm
