"The strength of the JD-U comes from its committed party workers. - Lalan Singh"

Patna, Jan 20

Union Minister and senior Janata Dal-United leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, on Tuesday, made several significant statements on Bihar politics, internal party matters, and the Union government's plans to boost India's seafood exports.

Speaking to reporters in Lakhisarai, Lalan Singh dismissed speculation about the return of former Union Minister RCP Singh to the JD-U.

He said that there was no place in the party for those who weakened the organisation.

"The strength of the JD-U comes from its committed party workers. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the party has continuously grown stronger," he added.

Highlighting departmental initiatives, Lalan Singh announced that the Union government will organise a high-level roundtable conference on January 21, 2026, involving Ambassadors and High Commissioners from more than 80 countries.

The conference will be chaired by Lalan Singh himself.

"The objective is to expand India's seafood exports and establish new international market linkages," he said, noting that India is currently the world's second-largest aquaculture producer.

After meeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lalan Singh said, "We were in the region for three days. After returning today, I informed Nitish Kumar that we are leaving for Delhi tonight, as there is a Cabinet meeting tomorrow. It is his magnanimity that he came to meet us today. Our relationship spans 38 years."

Asked about Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar's entry into politics, the Union Minister said that the decision rests solely with the Bihar Chief Minister.

Lalan Singh also congratulated Nitin Nabin on being appointed the BJP President, saying that he possesses strong leadership qualities and would take the party forward.

Commenting on the Bihar Assembly election results, he said that the people of Bihar have given a strong mandate to the NDA based on development.

Emphasising Bihar's role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Developed India 2047' vision, he added that the state is now in a position to lead from the front.

"Bihar is no longer lagging behind. It has the capacity to play a decisive role in building a developed India," Lalan Singh added.

The internal politics of JD-U is always so dramatic! Lalan Singh's clear message to RCP Singh shows the party wants to present a united front. But honestly, as a citizen, I'm more interested in the development plans for Bihar. The state needs consistent work, not just pre-election promises.

Seafood exports? Great! But what about improving the quality and safety standards for domestic consumers first? We often hear about formalin and other preservatives in fish. The government should ensure our own people get safe, quality produce before chasing foreign markets.

Interesting read. The mention of a conference in 2026 feels very far away for actionable policy. Shouldn't the planning be more immediate? Also, the emphasis on Bihar's leadership role is promising, but it needs to be backed by tangible investments in infrastructure and education.

"Bihar is no longer lagging behind" – This statement needs some reality check. While there is progress, we still have a long way to go in terms of industrial growth and per capita income. Hope this isn't just political rhetoric and actual work continues on the ground. Jai Bihar!

Focusing on exports is the right way forward. It brings in foreign exchange and improves the standard of living for our fishermen communities. The roundtable with ambassadors is a smart diplomatic move. Let's hope for good market access deals, especially with European and Middle Eastern countries.
