'Keep national interest supreme': Gujarat Governor tells citizens on I-Day

Citizens should keep national interest above all else and discharge their social and national responsibilities with complete honesty, hard work and a sincere spirit of service, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat said on Saturday as he hoisted the national flag at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day.
Addressing citizens on the occasion, Devvrat called upon people to make a firm resolve to contribute to the country's progress and to collectively work towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047'.
His appeal came as the nation marked its 80th Independence Day on August 15, with this year's celebrations also highlighting the contribution of young Indians towards building a developed India by 2047.
The Governor hoisted the Tricolour at Lok Bhavan in a patriotic atmosphere and paid tribute to the immortal martyrs and countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and dedicated everything for the freedom and integrity of the motherland.
Remembering their "unparalleled sacrifice, devotion and valour", Devvrat offered his respects to those who fought for India's independence and called upon citizens to draw inspiration from their contribution.
"We should all take a firm resolve to keep national interest supreme and perform our social and national duties with complete honesty, hard work and a sincere spirit of service," he said.
The Governor further urged citizens to unite and make their best possible contribution to realising the goal of a developed India.
As part of the Independence Day observance, Devvrat also planted trees on the Lok Bhavan premises, conveying a message of environmental protection and conservation of nature.
He extended his greetings to the people of Gujarat and citizens across the country on the 80th Independence Day and wished for the nation's peace, prosperity and progress.
The state-level Independence Day celebrations were held in Amreli, where Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel hoisted the national flag at the Police Parade Ground.
The programme included a ceremonial parade, demonstrations by police personnel, including a horse show, dog show and motorcycle display, as well as cultural performances.
A tree plantation programme was also organised as part of the celebrations to convey a message of environmental conservation.
