Alia Bhatt Shuts Down Sexist Remark on India's Got Latent 2

Alia Bhatt and host Samay Raina shut down a sexist audience remark on the premiere of India's Got Latent 2. When an audience member shouted "Paisa" in response to what women like in men, Alia immediately asked, "Kaun bola ye?" Samay followed with a witty comeback, saying it must have been a poor man. The clip went viral, with social media users praising both for challenging the stereotype. This comes amid recent controversy involving comedian Pranit More's stand-up show.

'Kaun bola ye?': Alia Bhatt calls out audience member's 'money is all girls want' remark on India's Got Latent 2

Mumbai, June 22

The second season of 'India's Got Latent' has returned, with its first episode streaming on Netflix.

The opening episode featured actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, along with comedian Ashish Solanki.

Several moments from the show have gone viral on social media, but one particular exchange involving Alia Bhatt and host Samay Raina has caught viewers' attention.

In the now-viral clip, Samay Raina can be seen asking Alia what women like most in men. Before the actor could respond, a member of the audience shouted, "Paisa" (money), suggesting that women mainly care about a man's wealth.

Alia was quick to react to the comment, asking, "Kaun bola ye?" (Who said that?). Soon after, Samay responded with a light-hearted remark, saying it must have been "some poor man." His comment drew laughter from the audience and appeared to shut down the stereotype.

The clip soon spread across social media, with many users praising both Alia and Samay for their response.

One user wrote on X, "Samay Raina shuts down misogynistic joke with a sharp comeback on #IndiasGotLatent. Samay- What does a girl like the most in a guy? Audience- money. Alia Bhatt- kisne bola ye. Samay- Gareeb aadmi ne kaha hoga."

Another viewer commented, "I love how Alia reacted quickly, and Samay probably had flashbacks, so he stepped up."

A third user wrote, "The fact that it triggers them so much is because they don't even make enough for themselves."

This comes amid the recent controversy involving comedian Pranit More's stand-up show.

A clip from an interaction during the show went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism and sparking heated debate online. Many users also questioned More's response during the exchange. As the backlash intensified, the matter moved beyond social media, prompting the Maharashtra Cyber Police to register cases against both More and Jangra.

Honestly, it's a tired joke. Even as a joke, it reinforces a bad thought. Good on Alia for not letting it slide and for Samay to shut it down without making it awkward. Finally some positive use of that platform!

I was cringing when the guy yelled that. So glad Alia snapped back. It's 2024, we need to move past these regressive ideas. And Samay's quick wit saved the moment. Paisa is important for survival, not the only thing.

Respect to Alia Bhatt for calling that out on the spot. That kind of casual misogyny needs to be checked, not laughed off. Samay's follow-up was solid too. Kudos to both of them.

I feel like the response itself is a bit performative. Yes, the comment was dumb, but turning it into a viral moment feels forced. It's a complex topic that needs more than a one-liner. Still, better than staying silent, I guess.

The irony is that this "poor man" joke is also a bit classist. But I get the point. It's frustrating that a woman's supposed love for money is still such a common "punchline". We need to stop normalizing this.
