Karnataka: ISRO headquarters receives hoax bomb threat, police probe underway
Bengaluru, July 2
Indian Space Research Organisation headquarters in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Thursday received a hoax bomb threat call, an official said.
The ISRO officials have filed a complaint, and the police will further probe the incident.
North Bengaluru DCP Babasab Nemagouda said, "Around the afternoon, the ISRO headquarters in Sanjay Nagar police station limits received a bomb threat call. Our officials rushed to ISRO and thoroughly checked; nothing was found. ISRO officials are filing a complaint with us, and we'll take up the case for further investigation."
Addressing recent security concerns following the hoax call, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said that the government is vigilant towards such incidents.
Kharge said, "There are hoax calls in many different places received. Our government is keenly watching all this. Even in Yadgir, there was recently an email that came in. Today, of course, there are all hoax calls, and these things keep happening. But we are always on our vigil and will ensure that nothing untoward happens."
Further probe into the hoax call is underway, and details are awaited.

Honestly, with all the tensions around, these kind of things can cause panic. Glad it was a hoax and the police acted quickly. But we need better screening of calls and maybe stricter punishment for such pranksters. It's not funny yaar. 🚀
These hoax calls are becoming a regular nuisance. First schools, then airports, now ISRO. The government needs to implement a better tracking system for such calls. Our scientists have more important work to do than deal with this nonsense. Kudos to the police for the swift response.
As someone who works in aerospace overseas, seeing this kind of security lapse is concerning. ISRO is a world-class organization and they deserve better. Hope the investigation is thorough and leads to some real preventive measures. A hoax bomb threat is no joke.
Just imagine if this had been a real threat - our scientists and staff would have been in danger. Even though it's a hoax, it shows the vulnerability. The home minister saying 'these things keep happening' is not reassuring. We need better laws and technology to trace these calls faster.
I visited ISRO last year and was impressed by their security. But this incident shows there's always room for improvement. India's space program is doing amazing things - Mars orbiter, Chandrayaan - we can't let these hoaxes distract them. Hope the guilty party is caught soon. 🙏
