Karnataka govt closely monitoring rainfall, crops in North Karnataka: CM DK Shivakumar

Belagavi, July 9

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday said the state government is closely monitoring the rainfall situation and crop conditions across North Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, CM Shivakumar said the inspection tour began from Basavakalyan and covered Bidar and Kalaburagi before reaching Belagavi.

"We need to inspect the rainfall situation and the crops. We have started from Basavakalyan. After completing Basavakalyan, we went to Bidar, and from Bidar to Gulbarga. We have completed that and come. Today we are in Belagavi," he said.

The CM added that all his cabinet colleagues are accompanying him on the tour. He said the team will review the situation in detail and also hold discussions with local MLAs and the public.

"All my ministers are here with me. We will review everything. We will also speak to the MLAs and to all of you. Don't worry, we are not going without talking to you," Shivakumar assured.

He further appealed for public cooperation in dealing with rain-related issues and wished the people well.

On Tuesday, CM Shivakumar warned that strict action will be taken against officials found negligent in managing the drought situation in the state.

Addressing the first divisional-level progress review meeting of North Karnataka in Kalaburagi, the Chief Minister said he would not tolerate dereliction of duty by officials.

"The main goal of my government is to provide clean governance, development and civil rights to the last person, including everyone. To achieve this goal, the officers should act very proactively, pro-people and responsibly," he said.

Referring to his administrative experience, the Chief Minister said he had worked at various levels from Taluk Panchayat President to Chief Minister. "Therefore, I know very well what happens at every level of administration. I am not ready to listen to any excuses when it comes to development. Results are important to me," he said.

"If you do not work for the people, I will be forced to take action against you," he warned officials.

Finally some proactive governance. But actions speak louder than words - hope the ministers actually talk to farmers on ground rather than just review meetings. North Karnataka has been neglected for too long!

CM Shivakumar seems sincere about ground-level issues. His warning to officials is much needed - too many babus just pass files without caring about results. Thoda sa pressure inke upar banta hai! 😄

Nice to see a CM who knows administration from taluk to top level. But let's be honest - this is election year, so these tours also have political angle. Still, if it brings genuine attention to farmers' issues, I'm all for it. Jai Karnataka! 🌾

Hope this isn't just another photogenic tour. Last year also they promised relief but what actually reached farmers? Show us real data about compensation and crop insurance claims. Ee photo-op sari aagalla!

Respect to CM for touring during rainy season. But I'm more interested in what happens after the visit. Please ensure timely disaster relief funds and crop insurance payouts. Our farmers can't wait for paperwork!

At least this CM is taking rain situation seriously. Previous governments used to
