This is worrying. These factories are major employers in rural Karnataka. A big fire could mean livelihoods are at risk even if no one was physically injured. Authorities must investigate the cause thoroughly and ensure all safety protocols are followed in the future.
Prompt action by the fire department likely prevented a much worse disaster. It highlights the importance of having well-equipped and staffed emergency services even in more remote talukas. Hope the relief efforts are effective.
No casualties is the best news. But let's be honest, how many of these industrial units have proper fire safety audits? Often it takes an incident for anyone to check. Hope this serves as a wake-up call for the entire sugar belt region.
My cousin works in a similar factory in Maharashtra. The bagasse (sugarcane waste) stored there is highly flammable. Management needs to ensure proper storage and handling. Good to see a quick response from the fire brigade.
