Kargil heroes scripted golden history of victory with valour, unwavering resolve: Army Chief

Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, on the occasion of 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paid tributes to the heroes of the 1999 war, whose courage and unwavering resolve, he said, scripted a "golden history of victory", adding that their supreme sacrifice serves as an "inexhaustible source of inspiration" for the armed forces.
In his message on Kargil Vijay Diwas, Gen Seth said, "Kargil Vijay Diwas stands as an immortal symbol of the Indian Army's indomitable courage, devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice. On this occasion, I pay humble tribute to all the heroes of Kargil, whose valour and unwavering resolve scripted a golden history of victory while safeguarding the nation's sovereignty."
"Their supreme sacrifice serves as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for every warrior of the Indian Army. The Indian Army remains ever-dedicated and committed to the defence and nation-building of the country," he added.
India is commemorating the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday, marked with gratitude and national pride, in remembrance of the historic 1999 victory when Indian soldiers reclaimed the snow-covered heights of Kargil.
Kargil Vijay Diwas holds tremendous significance in Indian history and commemorates the victory of the Indian armed forces over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. This year, the day marks the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The conflict, which began in May 1999 after Pakistani forces infiltrated across the Line of Control (LoC) and occupied commanding heights, aimed to sever the link between Kashmir and Ladakh and isolate troops on the Siachen Glacier.
Indian Army responded with Operation Vijay, supported by the Indian Air Force's Operation Safed Sagar and full naval deployment, following a clear strategy of contain, evict and deny, without crossing the LoC.

It's good that the Army Chief acknowledges this. However, we also need to ensure that the families of our martyrs get proper support. Many of them still struggle with pensions and employment. Let's honor them with real action, not just words.
Every time I see the Kargil memorial or hear stories of the war, I get goosebumps. Our jawans fought at 18,000 feet with limited supplies and still won. That's the Indian Army for you. Respect forever 🙏
I visited Kargil a few years ago and saw the bunkers at Tiger Hill. It really humbles you to see what our soldiers endured. The sacrifice of the Indian forces for national integrity is truly unmatched. Thank you for keeping us safe.
