"This was a completely new experience for me... a side I get to explore as a performer - Jonita Gandhi"

Mumbai, April 2

Playback singer Jonita Gandhi, who has sung the song 'Touchbuddy' with actor, singer and politician Pawan Singh, has shared what drew her to the song.

The singer is stepping into a bold new phase in her artistic journey, one that goes beyond playback and cements her as a truly multidimensional artist with a striking on-screen presence. In her latest groovy dance track, she not only lends her voice but completely owns the screen with effortless confidence.

Talking about the song, she told IANS, "This was a completely new experience for me. As someone who loves dancing, I felt drawn to this, and I really embraced it as playing a character, not an extension of who I am, but a side I get to explore as a performer".

In this project, the singer leans into a stylised, performance-led avatar, playful, self-assured, and fluid. The track's groove brings out her signature nuance and control, where attitude and ease take centre stage over spectacle. It feels intentional, sharp, and completely in her lane.

The Telugu version of the song pairs her with Ram Miriyala, bringing together a vibrant cross-language collaboration. The songs are from 'Dacoit'. starring Adivi Sesh, Anurag Kashyap, and Mrunal Thakur.

Pawan Singh and Jonita Gandhi is an unexpected but cool combo. Good to see artists stepping out of their comfort zones. The bilingual approach for 'Dacoit' is smart, tapping into both Hindi and Telugu audiences.

The song is catchy, but I hope the focus remains on her incredible singing talent. Sometimes the push for "on-screen presence" overshadows the music itself. Still, wishing her all the best for this new phase!

Love seeing female artists own their space and explore different facets. "Playing a character" is such a powerful way to look at it. The film's cast with Anurag Kashyap is also a major draw. April 2026 is so far away though!

Jonita and Ram Miriyala for the Telugu version? That's a fantastic pairing! Her pronunciation in Telugu songs has always been good. Cross-language collaborations are the future of Indian cinema. 🎬

The article mentions "attitude and ease take centre stage over spectacle." That's refreshing. So much of music videos now is just about grand sets. Looking forward to a performance that feels genuine.
