"Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was not merely a BJP leader, but a mass leader who inspired politicians across party lines. - Gajendra Singh Shekhawat"

Jaipur, May 9

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said former Vice President and three-time Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was a "walking university" of Indian democracy who, through his long public life, mentored thousands of party workers and gave new direction to politics through his experience, conduct and ideals of public service.

Addressing the media after reviewing preparations for the unveiling ceremony of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's life-size statue in Jodhpur on May 14, the Union Minister said the people of Rajasthan have always held deep respect and affection for the veteran leader.

He added that the statue, to be installed in Jodhpur, would inspire future generations about democratic values, good governance and public service.

The Union Minister said Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was not merely a BJP leader, but a mass leader who inspired politicians across party lines, transcending ideological boundaries.

Along with BJP leaders, several opposition leaders also benefited from his vast experience and sought his guidance in public life, he said.

The Union Minister emphasised that the responsibility of a public representative goes beyond policymaking and includes reaching out to people, listening to their grievances and ensuring solutions.

In this spirit, he is scheduled to stay overnight at Phalsund Gram Panchayat in the Pokaran Assembly constituency, where he will interact with villagers.

Shekhawat said Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's life demonstrated that politics is not merely a means to attain power, but one of the most effective instruments for serving society.

He added that the statue would remain a lasting source of inspiration for public service, simplicity and democratic values.

The Union Minister further informed that several senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore, will attend the unveiling ceremony.

Earlier, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also conducted a public hearing at the Circuit House for over two hours.

He said the day held special significance as the birth anniversaries of personalities such as Maharana Pratap, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Gopal Krishna Gokhale inspire people to work with dedication towards nation-building.

Shekhawat added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, everyone must contribute towards realising the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India).

I remember how Bhairon Singh Shekhawat ji always emphasized on reaching out to the grassroots. Even as Vice President, he stayed humble and approachable. The Union Minister's decision to stay overnight in a village shows he's following the same path. 🙏

It's good to see politicians honoring leaders across party lines. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was respected by all parties for his integrity. But I hope the government also focuses on current issues like unemployment and farmer distress instead of just statues.

Jodhpur needs more development, not just statues. But Bhairon Singh ji was a legend - he served Rajasthan for decades with dedication. The statue might inspire youngsters to join politics for the right reasons. Let's hope it also brings attention to local issues. 👍

The mention of Maharana Pratap, Tagore, and Gokhale along with Shekhawat ji shows the cultural depth of this event. It's nice to see BJP acknowledging diverse leaders. But I wish the article had more about the common people's opinion on this statue.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was a walking encyclopedia of politics, no doubt. But let's not forget his role in bringing water to Rajasthan through the Narmada project. A statue is fine, but his real legacy is the infrastructure he built. Hope the youth learn from his work ethic. 🇮🇳
