JK: Two houses gutted in fire in Ramban's Khari Tehsil, no casualties reported
Ramban, August 8
Two houses were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in the Akhran Trigam area of Khari Tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Saturday.
According to the Tehsil Administration Khari, the blaze was later brought under control and doused, with no loss of life reported in the incident. However, the residential structures suffered extensive damage.

In a separate incident, a fire erupted on January 17 in an old, non-usable houseboat at Kabutar Khana, Char Chinari in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
Following the incident, officials from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), were deployed to contain the blaze.
The flames were successfully doused on time, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures and houseboats.No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident, officials added.

Very sad to hear this. These mountain villages have limited access to fire services, and by the time help reaches, everything is lost. At least no lives were lost. The SDRF and local teams should also conduct fire safety awareness camps in such remote areas.
Good response by the local administration and fire services. The houseboat incident in Srinagar could have been catastrophic if it spread to nearby boats. Proud of the quick action. But we need more proactive measures - regular fire audits in dense residential and tourist areas.

While I'm relieved no casualties were reported, it's unfortunate that our rural fire-fighting setup is still so weak. In many villages, there's no fire station for kilometres. The government should allocate funds to set up local response teams and provide basic equipment to panchayats.
