Jemimah Rodrigues Ruled Out of The Hundred With Hamstring Injury

Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of The Hundred due to a hamstring injury, impacting Southern Brave's push for the final. The injury could also affect India's preparation for the Women's Asia Cup starting later this month.

New Delhi, August 8

India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of The Hundred after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Rodrigues, who joined Southern Brave as a direct signing for £60,000 (approximately US$80,000), has been one of the franchise's most consistent performers this season.

She scored 143 runs in six innings, playing a key role in Brave's strong campaign as they sit joint-top of the women's competition on 20 points alongside Trent Rockets, who lead on net run rate.

The 25-year-old has also claimed two Player-of-the-Match awards for her performances, making her absence a significant blow to Southern Brave as the competition enters its decisive phase.

It is a significant blow for Brave, as well as the competition, given Rodrigues' profile. They have two games remaining to secure automatic qualification for the final by finishing top of the table, with Manchester Super Giants and Trent Rockets their remaining opponents.

Her absence could also present a concern for India, with the Women's Asia Cup set to begin in the UAE later this month.

The extent of Rodrigues' hamstring injury is yet to be ascertained, and her withdrawal could be a precautionary measure aimed at protecting her fitness and preventing further damage. India begin their campaign against Thailand in Dubai on August 30, 22 days from now.

Brave have moved quickly to replace Rodrigues, bringing in Australian allrounder Charli Knott, who returns to the Utilita Bowl after featuring for the side in the 2024 edition.

Knott has enjoyed an excellent T20 summer in England, scoring 404 runs and taking 27 wickets, the most in the competition, during The Blaze's Vitality Blast-winning campaign.

India's preparation for the Asia Cup just got a bit complicated. But honestly, it's better Jemimah misses The Hundred rest of the way if there's any risk of worsening the injury. Better to have her at 100% for the Asia Cup than 70% in both competitions. Get well soon, champ!

While this is unfortunate, I do feel our Indian players are playing too much cricket these days. Franchise leagues are great for exposure and money, but at 25, Jemimah's career is just taking off. I'd rather she skip the Asia Cup if there's even a small doubt about her fitness. Long-term career > one tournament. 🤔

Charli Knott is a solid replacement for Southern Brave, to be fair. She's been having a fantastic season with The Blaze. But let's be honest - no one can really replace the energy and spark Jemimah brings to the field. Her fielding alone is worth so much to the team. Wishing her a speedy recovery! 💪

Two Player-of-the-Match awards in just six innings is quite impressive. It's a big loss for Southern Brave, especially coming into the business end of the tournament. But looking at the bigger picture, the Asia Cup should be the priority for Indian cricket. Don't rush her back, please!

One must also question why our players are playing in so many franchise tournaments when important national duties are around the corner. Not blaming anyone, but the BCCI needs to manage player workloads better. A young talent like Jemimah should be protected. Get well soon,
