Jamia Millia Islamia excels in university rankings 2026 for tourism, architecture courses
New Delhi, July 7
Jamia Millia Islamia has achieved significant recognition in a media group's university rankings for 2026, with its Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management securing first rank nationally, an official said on Tuesday.
The first rank was achieved in the Best Value-for-Money Hotel Management Colleges category, said Chief Public Relations Officer Saima Saeed in a statement.
The University ranked 3rd nationally among the Best Emerging Hotel Management Colleges, according to the statement.
Adding to the university's achievements, JMI's Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics retained its position among India's premier architecture institutions by securing the 5th rank under the Architecture category, it said.
Congratulating the faculty, students, and staff on the achievement, Vice Chancellor Mazhar Asif and Registrar Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi said the recognition reflects JMI's unwavering commitment to academic excellence, industry engagement, quality education, and holistic student development across professional disciplines.
Vice Chancellor Mazhar Asif described the rankings as a testament to JMI's sustained pursuit of excellence in niche areas of higher education.
Expressing confidence that both the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics would continue to scale new heights, he said the rankings reaffirm the university's emphasis on quality education and industry-oriented learning.
Rizvi termed the achievement a matter of immense pride for the university and appreciated the collective efforts of the faculty, students, researchers, alumni, and staff in strengthening JMI's academic reputation.
He said that every national and international ranking reinforces the university's belief that sustained academic excellence and dedicated efforts by its students and faculty translate into greater success.
The Vice Chancellor and Registrar congratulated JMI's Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) for its role in the achievement.
They also congratulated Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, and Sarah Hussain, Head, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, for the department's outstanding performance across key parameters, including academics, research, industry collaborations, internships, placements, and skill development.
They also congratulated Qamar Irshad, Dean, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, and Taiyaba Munawer, Head, Department of Architecture, for the faculty's impressive performance in the Best Colleges Ranking 2026.
The ranking evaluates architecture institutions on parameters such as intake quality and governance, academic excellence, infrastructure and campus life, personality and leadership development, career progression and placements, and perception among academic and industry experts.
The latest rankings reaffirm Jamia Millia Islamia's commitment to advancing academic excellence, fostering innovation, and strengthening its position among India's leading institutions of higher education, the statement said.

While I'm happy for Jamia, I wonder how many of these rankings truly reflect on-ground quality. My cousin studied at a 'top-ranked' hotel management college and struggled to find a good placement. Still, any recognition for our central universities is welcome.
Architecture at 5th place is solid! Indian architecture education often gets overshadowed by IITs and NITs, so it's great to see Jamia holding its own. The faculty mentioned - Qamar Irshad and Taiyaba Munawer - must be doing excellent work. Thumbs up from a fellow Delhiite! 👏
Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical about media group rankings. They often have opaque criteria and favor private colleges. But Jamia has historically produced good students in architecture, so maybe there's some truth here. Would love to see more transparency in how these ranks are calculated.
This is excellent news! Jamia provides quality education at very affordable fees compared to private universities. The 'value-for-money' tag is well-deserved. My cousin completed her hotel management from there and is now working with a top chain. JMI ka naam roshan! ✨
Good that they included architecture schools in the ranking too. The field is often overlooked. But I hope the university focuses equally on research output and not just placements. Real academic excellence comes from a balance of both. Still, congratulations to the entire Jamia community!
