James Gunn shuts down rumours about 'The Batman' sequel filming schedule
Washington, August 7
James Gunn has dismissed speculation that 'The Batman: Part II' and 'The Batman: Part III' will be filmed back-to-back, offering a clear update on the future of Matt Reeves' Batman trilogy.
During a recent Q and A session on Threads, the DC Studios co-chief responded directly to a fan who asked whether the two sequels would be filmed simultaneously.
Gunn replied, "I can deny," putting an end to the rumours surrounding the production schedule.
The clarification comes as director Matt Reeves continues work on 'The Batman: Part II'.
Earlier this week, Reeves shared camera test shots from Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, offering fans a glimpse of Robert Pattinson's 'Batman', the Batmobile and a snowy winter setting for the long-awaited sequel.
Development on the sequel has continued following earlier delays.
James Gunn confirmed in July that the screenplay for 'The Batman: Part II' had been completed.
A letter to Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders released last August, as reported by Deadline, also stated that production on the film would begin in the spring.
Despite the progress, Warner Bros. recently revised the film's release schedule.
Last month, the studio moved the release date of 'The Batman: Part II' to February 18, 2028, while Reeves continued teasing the project with camera test footage featuring Robert Pattinson in costume.

I think it's smart of James Gunn to deny the back-to-back filming rumors. Matt Reeves clearly has a specific vision for this trilogy, and rushing it would be a disaster. Quality over quantity, right? Also, that snowy Batmobile shot looks incredible!
February 2028? That's almost 6 years after the first film! Meanwhile, Bollywood actors churn out 2-3 movies a year. But honestly, if the wait means we get another masterpiece like the dark, gritty world Reeves built, then maybe it's worth it. Robert Pattinson was born to play this Batman. 🦇
I respect James Gunn for being transparent with fans on social media. He's clearly building something special with DC. The fact that he immediately denied the rumor shows he cares about managing expectations. Looking forward to seeing what the winter setting brings to Gotham's atmosphere. ❄️
Hollywood's obsession with superhero movies is something else. Here in India, we have such diverse storytelling - from historical epics to social dramas - and they keep rehashing the same Batman story. Sorry, but I'll stick to our regional cinema over this overhyped franchise any day. 🙄
The camera test shots from Leavesden look epic! The snowy Gotham aesthetic is going to be a game-changer. And honestly, if it takes a little longer to get it right, so be it. After the debacles of the DCEU, Gunn and Reeves are finally giving fans something to be excited about again. Hype is real! 🔥
