External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday jointly handed over an agro-processing facility and inaugurated a permanent Prosthetics Centre in Trinidad and Tobago during his official visit to the Caribbean twin-island nation.

In a post on X, EAM stated that the agro-processing facility in South Trinidad was handed over alongside Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar and is powered by India's SEEDS initiative.

The project will boost the SME ecosystem in Trinidad and Tobago and provide new momentum to the country's farming sector.

"Delivering on another commitment made by PM Narendra Modi in July 2025. In a separate development, Jaishankar launched a permanent Prosthetics Centre in Penal, Trinidad and Tobago, also alongside PM Persad-Bissessar.

EAM, in a separate post, stated that the centre, modelled on India's successful Jaipur Foot initiative, will serve the disabled population in Trinidad and Tobago as well as the wider CARICOM region.

These projects reflect India's ongoing commitment to people-focused development initiatives in the Caribbean and reinforce cooperation in healthcare, agriculture, and skill development.

Jaishankar is currently on an ongoing three-nation tour to the Caribbean.

Jaishankar concluded his high-level visits to Jamaica and Suriname between May 2 and 7, marking a significant push in India's engagement with these countries.

Wait, why didn't this get more coverage in Indian media? This is a huge deal - helping the farming sector and disabled people in Trinidad. Aag laga di India ne! 🔥 But honestly, I wish our government publicised these soft power wins better.

Impressive to see India's commitment to the Caribbean. The Jaipur Foot is a well-known success story, and making it permanent shows a shift from ad-hoc aid to sustainable development. Good for Trinidad.

Modi ji ne 2025 mein promise kiya tha aur ab poora hua. Development diplomacy at its best! But one question - are we also learning from their farming techniques? The Caribbean has some great agro-processing models. It should be a two-way street, no? Just a thought...

It's great to see India expanding its global footprint with people-centric projects. The agro-processing facility will help local SMEs, and the prosthetics centre is a powerful gift. This is the kind of engagement that builds long-term relationships, not just short-term photo ops. Well done, EAM.

Every Indian should feel proud - these are concrete, impactful projects. Jaipur Foot has changed millions of lives globally, and now a permanent centre in Trinidad is a huge step. But I have a small concern: are we making sure these projects have enough local staff training so they remain sustainable after Indian support winds down? Long-term thinking needed.
