Jaipur Collector calls for public participation in Census self-enumeration

Jaipur Collector Sandesh Nayak appeals for public participation in Census self-enumeration from May 1-15. Key tips on OTP safety, data submission, and verification process.

"Do not share your One-Time Password (OTP) with enumerators during home visits for verification purposes. - Sandesh Nayak"

Jaipur, April 30

The self-enumeration process for the first phase of the Census will be conducted in Jaipur district from May 1 to May 15, 2026, with residents able to complete the process online through the official portal using a desktop computer or smartphone.

Principal Census Officer and District Collector Sandesh Nayak has appealed to all residents of the district to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and ensure accurate data submission.

He advised citizens not to share their One-Time Password (OTP) with enumerators during home visits for verification purposes. He also clarified that even after completing self-enumeration, an enumerator will visit households to verify and cross-check the submitted data as part of the official process.

During the self-enumeration process, users will be able to review their entries on a "Preview" screen and make necessary corrections if required. However, once the data is "Finally Submitted", it cannot be edited online.

Any required corrections can subsequently be made during the enumerator's visit to the household.

The district administration has completed all necessary preparations for the upcoming Census 2027 exercise, officials said.

As part of the preparatory work, the Census pre-test was successfully conducted by November 2025 in Wards 55, 56, and 63 of the Kishanpole Zone under the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation.

The process of "boundary freezing", along with verification of administrative unit maps and lists, was completed by December 31, 2025, to ensure administrative stability during the Census period.

To ensure smooth implementation, Census Cells have been established at both district and charge levels. A total of 5,277 enumeration blocks have been created in the district, with 4,779 enumerators and 780 supervisors appointed for the exercise.

Training of all officials and personnel associated with the Census has also been completed in phases to ensure preparedness at all operational levels.

The notification for the House Listing and Housing Census was issued on January 22, 2026. District-level training for senior officials was conducted from February 10 to 11, followed by training for District Census Cell staff from February 16 to 18, and additional training for Charge Officers and other officials from February 19 to 20, 2026.

All tasks under the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), including ID mapping, block creation, and preparation of personnel lists, have been completed, officials added.

The House Listing and Housing Census will be conducted from May 16 to June 14, 2026, following the self-enumeration phase.

The second phase, involving population enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027 as part of the nationwide Census exercise.

The District Collector has directed all officials to carry out the self-enumeration and house listing processes with utmost seriousness and diligence.

He has also urged public representatives and citizens to maximise participation and ensure widespread use of the self-enumeration portal to facilitate a smooth and accurate Census process.

Interesting initiative but the timing is tricky - May 1 to 15 is peak summer in Rajasthan. Many families might be away or struggling with heat. And the enumerator still comes to verify anyway, so what's the real benefit? 🤔 Also, I hope the portal doesn't crash like those exam websites during peak hours.

Good to see the administration taking census seriously with proper training and preparation. 5,277 enumeration blocks and 4,779 enumerators is a significant deployment. But the real test will be data accuracy - in my experience, people often give wrong information about income or family size due to privacy concerns. The government should assure strict confidentiality.

As someone who works in data management, I appreciate the preview feature before final submission. But I'm concerned about the "cannot edit online after final submission" rule - what if someone makes a genuine mistake? The enumerator visit seems like a safety net, but will they really correct everything? Also, hope the portal is accessible for people with disabilities.

अच्छी पहल है! Jaipur Collector sahab ne sahi kaha hai - public participation is key. But I worry about the digital divide. My parents in a village near Jaipur don't have smartphones, and the nearest cyber cafe is 5 km away. Will there be special arrangements for such households? Otherwise this "self-enumeration" will only benefit the urban population. 🙏

Good that they completed boundary freezing and pre-tests before rollout. But I'm skeptical about the May 16 to June 14 house listing phase - that's when many people travel
