J-K: Sonamarg Police return lost gold bangle to tourist at Srinagar airport
Ganderbal, June 21
The Sonamarg Police traced and returned a gold bangle lost by a tourist at Zero Point after carrying out a prompt search and verification process on Sunday.
Officials said the tourist, identified as SR Kumawat, had lost the gold bangle during her visit to Zero Point in Sonamarg.
Following sustained efforts and an investigation, police identified the rightful owner and verified her claim. By the time the verification process was completed, the tourist had already reached Srinagar Airport.
A police team, accompanied by local guide Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat of Hayan Kangan, rushed to the airport and handed over the recovered gold bangle to the tourist before her departure.
"The tourist expressed gratitude to Sonamarg Police for their swift action and honesty," an official said.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ganderbal.
Local residents and tourism stakeholders appreciated the efforts of the Sonamarg Police, praising their commitment to assisting tourists and maintaining a safe and tourist-friendly environment in the area.

As a frequent traveler to Kashmir, I can say this is typical of the hospitality you find there. The local guides and police genuinely care. Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat deserves special recognition for going out of his way. These small gestures create lasting memories for tourists. 🙏
I wish all police forces in India had this level of dedication. During my visit to J&K last year, I found the local police extremely helpful. This story is a testament to the changing face of tourism in the valley. Good work by SSP Ganderbal and the team! 🌟
True professionalism! 👌 It's easy to dismiss such acts in routine police work, but this kind of honesty and commitment is what builds trust. The bangle might have been of great sentimental value to the tourist. Hope more such stories come out from our tourism police.
This is what responsible tourism looks like. Sonamarg is already a paradise on earth, and such stories make it even more appealing. The local guide Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat is a gem. I hope the government recognizes and rewards such honest citizens who work with the police.
While it's good news, I can't help but wonder: why aren't there better systems in place for lost items in tourist spots? Many times, tourists lose things and never get them back. This is more an exception than the rule. Still, credit where it's due - the police did a great job here. 👍
