Jammu & Kashmir closes schools after Pakistani drone intrusions along LoC. Meanwhile, US-Israel strikes in Iran escalate West Asia tensions.

"In the interest of administration and safety of students... - Directorate of School Education Kashmir order"

New Delhi, March 1

Schools across Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed on March 2nd and 3rd following multiple Pakistani drone intrusion attempts along the Line of Control, amid a rapidly evolving situation in West Asia.

The Directorate of School Education Kashmir issued an order stating that the reopening of schools up to Class 8th, which was scheduled for tomorrow following winter vacations, has been put on hold.

"In the interest of administration and safety of students, it is hereby ordered that all Government and Private Recognised Schools of Kashmir Division shall remain closed on 2nd & 3rd March, 2026," the order read.

This comes after the Indian Army successfully thwarted an attempt by 2-3 small quadcopters to violate airspace along the Line of Control in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.

According to officials, the incident occurred between 5:45 AM and 6:00 AM when the quadcopters attempted to breach Indian airspace along the LoC.

Swift counter-drone actions by vigilant Indian Army personnel successfully thwarted the attempt, forcing the quadcopters to return, officials said.

This is not an isolated incident; there have been multiple drone sightings along the LoC and International Border in recent days. The Indian Army has intensified surveillance and monitoring to counter future attempts.

On the other hand, tensions have heightened in West Asia after joint missile strikes titled Operation Roaring Lion and Operation Epic Fury were carried out by Israel and the United States on Iran.

Explosions were reported in Tehran and other major cities, with US President Donald Trump and Iranian state media claiming that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes, along with his daughter, grandchild, daughter-in-law, and son-in-law.

Additional Iranian strikes were reported in Dubai, Qatar's capital Doha, Bahrain, and Kuwait, with Tehran stating that US bases in the region were being targeted.

This is so worrying. The kids were just getting back from winter break. I hope the administration has a plan for making up the lost days later. Education is already disrupted enough in the valley.

Salute to our brave Indian Army! 👏 They are always alert and protecting us. These cowardly attempts won't succeed. But linking this to West Asia tensions is a bit of a stretch in the article, no?

As a parent, I'm grateful for the precaution. But it's a sad state of affairs that normal life gets disrupted like this. The people of J&K deserve peace and stability more than anyone.

The global situation is explosive. What's happening in Iran is huge, and it might embolden certain actors everywhere. We need to be extra vigilant on our borders. Full support to our forces.

While the safety decision is correct, I respectfully think the government needs a more permanent solution. Can't keep shutting schools every time there's tension. Invest in better tech to neutralize drones permanently.
