Odisha Day, or Utkal Divas, is celebrated annually on April 1 to commemorate the formation of Odisha as a separate province on April 1, 1936, based on linguistic identity.

This day honours Odisha's rich culture, heritage, and the leaders who fought for a separate state.

In a post on X, President Murmu said, "Warm greetings to the people of Odisha on Odisha Day! This occasion celebrates the state's rich cultural heritage, timeless traditions, and the resilience of its people. Odisha's invaluable contribution to India's freedom struggle and nation-building continues to inspire all of us."

It's good to see national recognition for Odisha's role. But as an Odia living outside the state, I hope this 'Viksit Bharat' journey translates to more job opportunities and industrial development in our homeland, not just in metros. The talent is there, we need the infrastructure.

While the greetings are appreciated, I hope the focus on 'Viksit Bharat' includes preserving Odisha's unique ecology and tribal cultures. Development shouldn't come at the cost of losing ancient traditions and forests. A balanced approach is needed.
