New Delhi, June 30

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal role in supporting peace, stability, and regional cooperation during their telephonic conversation.

According to the Embassy of Iran in India, during the conversation, Pezeshkian expressed his satisfaction with the successful planning and hosting of the BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting in India.

President Pezeshkian voiced hope that cooperation and engagement between the Iran and India within multilateral frameworks such as BRICS would continue to expand.

Emphasising Iran's commitment to strengthening and deepening relations with India, Pezeshkian said, "The relations between our two countries are founded on a long-standing historical legacy and mutual respect. There is tremendous potential to enhance cooperation in political, economic, commercial, transit, and international affairs. It is therefore essential to establish greater coordination and make full use of existing capacities in order to define and implement new avenues for the expansion of bilateral relations," the Embassy of Iran noted on social media platform X.

In another part of the conversation, referring to the agreement reached to end the hostilities and bring the war to an end, the Iranian President stressed that "the Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to its obligations and hopes that the other side will also implement the terms of the agreement in good faith and with a sense of responsibility, so that the conditions for lasting peace, stability, and security in the region may be established".

Pezeshkian added that the international community should work to consolidate this process so that aggression and the use of force have no place in international relations.

Referring to the convergence of views between Tehran and New Delhi on many regional and international issues, particularly within multilateral organisations and forums, the Iranian President noted that such common ground could serve as a foundation for strengthening strategic cooperation and broadening comprehensive relations between the two countries.

While diplomatic gestures are welcome, I hope India is careful about deepening ties with Iran given US sanctions. We need to prioritize our energy security and trade without upsetting our strategic partners. The reference to "ending hostilities" is interesting - probably about tensions with Israel or Saudi? Need more clarity on what commitments India is making.

Iran is our neighbour and historical friend. The reference to BRICS cooperation is smart - both countries can benefit from countering dollar hegemony and promoting multipolar world order. But I worry about Iran's internal human rights situation. We should engage diplomatically while keeping our values intact. Still, any step towards peace in West Asia is positive. 🙏

This is just diplomatic formalities. Talk is cheap - what about the stalled Chabahar railway project? What about resolving payment issues for Iranian oil? We need concrete outcomes, not just phone calls. Also, why is Iran talking about "obligations" - are they referring to the nuclear deal or something else? India should push for clarity on these points.

Love how India plays the role of peacemaker while other powers are causing conflicts. PM Modi's personal touch in diplomacy is paying off. The mention of "historical legacy" is apt - our civilizations have traded and shared culture for millennia. But we must also remember our Afghan diaspora and ensure Iran doesn't become problematic for India's interests there. Balance is key. 🕊️

Iranian President calling us shows our growing stature. But let's be practical - Iran is under severe sanctions. Can India really expand trade without annoying the West? The BRICS angle is smart
