Foden signs new four-year Manchester City contract until 2030
London, July 22
Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has committed his long-term future to the former Premier League champions after signing a new four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.
The 26-year-old, whose previous deal was set to end next summer, has chosen to extend his stay with new head coach Enzo Maresca. He wants to start fresh after an inconsistent season.
"Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I've ever wanted to do, and it's always an honour to wear the shirt," Foden said after signing the extension.
"It's not lost on me that I've been lucky enough to be part of a historic time with so many titles won, but we're always looking to the future and trying to win more. I can't wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season; he was someone all the players respected and loved working with."
Foden made his first-team debut at 17 under former manager Pep Guardiola. He has since become one of City's most successful academy graduates. He has made 369 appearances for the club, winning six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League title, and two FA Cups.
The England international will now reunite with Maresca, who was Guardiola's assistant during City's historic Treble-winning 2022-23 season. Maresca took over as head coach this summer after Guardiola left in May following a celebrated decade in charge.
Foden faced a tough 2025-26 season, making only 23 Premier League starts. He scored seven goals and provided five assists in 33 league appearances. He was also left out of Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad in May after that inconsistent campaign.
The previous season was the best of his career. Foden scored 27 goals and made 12 assists across all competitions after City's Treble win. In the 2024-25 Premier League, he scored seven goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances.

Exciting news for City fans! Foden has been such a loyal player, coming through the academy. But I do wonder if he'll thrive under Maresca again—they had great chemistry in the treble-winning system. Missing out on the England World Cup squad must have been a huge blow, so this contract shows real character. Hope he bounces back strong!
Finally some stability for City after Pep left! Foden staying till 2030 is a big statement. The guy is pure class, but last season was rough—only 7 goals in the league. Kaun hai jo Foden ko wapas top form mein la sakta hai? Maresca knows him well, so fingers crossed. 🤞🇮🇳
Respect to Foden for committing through the tough times. It's rare to see such loyalty in modern football, especially after a season where he lost his place in the England setup. But honestly, 23 Premier League starts is not enough for a player of his caliber. Maresca needs to give him consistent minutes. Yeh ladka abhi bhi match-winner hai!
Good for Foden, but I'm not sure this is the right move for City right now. They're entering a new era under Maresca, and Foden's inconsistency last season is a concern. The 2024-25 numbers (7 goals, 2 assists) show he's not irreplaceable. Still, he's a homegrown talent, and you have to back him. Let's see if he can rediscover his 27-goal form. 🏴
