"LSG boast a formidable top order... complemented by a strong pace attack - Match Preview"

Lucknow, March 31

Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants will start their campaign in the Indian Premier League 2026 against Axar Patel's side, Delhi Capitals, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Both Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals endured underwhelming campaigns in IPL 2025, missing out on playoff qualification. Delhi narrowly fell short, finishing fifth and just one point away from the top four, while Lucknow ended seventh after managing six wins in their 14 league matches.

LSG boast a formidable top order featuring Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh, complemented by a strong pace attack comprising Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje, Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan, all capable of maintaining high speeds consistently.

In contrast, Delhi Capitals appear more settled overall, with a solid top order led by KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw and Pathum Nissanka. Their middle order includes experienced names like David Miller, Tristan Stubbs and Nitish Rana. However, their pace unit looks slightly vulnerable in the absence of Mitchell Starc, although Lungi Ngidi and Kyle Jamieson remain reliable options in this format.

DC's batting looks very strong on paper, but I'm worried about the bowling. Starc's absence is a big blow. Ngidi and Jamieson are good, but in the death overs? Hmm. Still, KL Rahul vs his old franchise will be the key battle! 7:30 PM marked on my calendar.

As a Lucknow fan, last season was painful. Hope the new captain brings a fresh start. The article says LSG's pace attack is strong, but what about the spin? Hasaranga is there but we need a proper Indian spinner. Manimaran Siddharth has to step up.

Interesting analysis. I feel DC has the more balanced squad overall. Axar Patel is a smart captain. The match-up between LSG's pace and DC's top order (Rahul, Shaw) will decide the game. Hoping for a high-scoring thriller to kick off the season!

Star Sports and JioHotstar... good coverage as usual. But I have to say, the constant ads during the live stream on Hotstar are getting too much. Pay for premium and still get ads? That's not fair yaar. Focus on the cricket, not the commercials.

Both teams missed playoffs last year, so they'll be hungry. Home advantage for LSG at the Ekana stadium could be huge. The pitch there can be tricky. Excited to see young talents like Mayank Yadav and Arshin Kulkarni. IPL is back! 🎉
