IPL 2026: LSG sign George Linde as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga

Lucknow Super Giants sign South African all-rounder George Linde as a replacement for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga for the remainder of IPL 2026.

"He brings extensive experience in the shortest format, having played 250 T20 matches. - Report"

Lucknow, April 10

Lucknow Super Giants have signed Protea all-rounder George Linde as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Friday.

Hasaranga was signed by LSG for Rs 2 crore at the auction but has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury he sustained in Sri Lanka's opening game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Earlier, it was reported that the veteran all-rounder had not taken the mandatory fitness tests under SLC's observation, which was a mandate to get an NOC (No Objection Certificate) to join the IPL.

Hasaranga was with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) last season and with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2021 to 2023.

Linde, a left-handed batting all-rounder who bowls slow left-arm orthodox, has represented South Africa in 3 Tests, 4 ODIs and 37 T20Is. In T20Is, Linde has scored 403 runs and picked up 35 wickets. He brings extensive experience in the shortest format, having played 250 T20 matches.

This will be his maiden stint in the IPL. He will join LSG at his reserve price of Rs 1 crore.

LSG currently stands in fifth place in the points table with two wins in three matches.

Interesting replacement. Linde is a solid utility player. But the article mentions Hasaranga didn't take fitness tests? That's a bit unprofessional, no? Hope LSG's management did their homework on Linde's fitness.

As an LSG fan, I'm a bit worried. We paid 2 crore for Hasaranga and now get a replacement at half the price. The team balance might be affected. But KL Rahul is a smart captain, he'll manage. Come on, LSG! 💙

Hamstring injury in the World Cup and now missing IPL... tough luck for the Sri Lankan. Linde is a good pick though. Left-arm spinner who can bat a bit. Could be a surprise package. Good luck to him for his first IPL!

Honestly, I feel for Hasaranga. Injuries are part of the game. But not taking the fitness test is on him. SLC has rules for a reason. Linde at 1 crore is a steal if he performs. LSG is 5th, need all points now!

Another season, another last-minute replacement for an overseas player. The IPL schedule is so packed, players are getting burnt out. BCCI needs to look at this. Anyway, hope George Linde has a great debut season! 🏏
