IPL 2026: KKR win toss, choose to bowl first against SRH at Kolkata

KKR wins toss, bowls first against SRH. Analysis of Vaibhav Arora's key matchups and team news from Eden Gardens in IPL 2026.

"We are going to bowl first... there's a breeze going around. It should be good for 40 overs. - Ajinkya Rahane"

Kolkata, April 2

Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss, and they have decided to field against one-time winners Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2026 match on Thursday.

The match number six between Kolkata and Hyderabad is being held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

According to CricViz, KKR's Vaibhav Arora has shown strong control against SRH batters, dismissing Ishan Kishan three times for just 20 runs in five IPL innings (SR 100).

Vaibhav has dismissed Travis Head two times for 24 runs in three innings (SR 218), and claimed one wicket against Abhishek Sharma for 18 runs in six IPL innings (SR 69). These key matchups highlight Arora's effectiveness in curbing SRH's top order.

On the other hand, Varun Chakaravarthy has faced a concerning dip in form, with his economy exceeding 10 in five of his last six T20 outings since the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Super 8 game against South Africa in Ahmedabad.

After winning the toss, KKR skipper Rahane said that Cameron Green will bowl soon.

"We are going to bowl first. There is always room for improvement, but there were a lot of positives. We don't generally don't see so much grass, rain around, and that's why we wanted to bowl first. Not sure about the dew as there's a breeze going around. It should be good for 40 overs. He is doing everything he needs to do. He should bowl soon," KKR skipper Rahane said.

After losing the toss, Hyderabad skipper Kishan said that they would have fielded as well.

"We would have bowled first. But batting first, we have to see the ball and play accordingly. We have to come up with the best game for us. You have to go out and do the basics right. Only one point I would say is execution; we need to stay calm, even if we are not in a very good situation. We will look to keep it simple in this game. I don't know yet, but he should be ready soon. He makes a big difference with the bat as well. We have one change - Shivang comes in, keeping the wicket-taking options open, he has bowled well in the nets, and we are giving him an opportunity," SRH captain Kishan said.

Interesting stats on Vaibhav Arora. He seems to be the key player for KKR today. But I'm more worried about Varun Chakravarthy's form. Economy over 10 is a real concern, especially in the middle overs. He needs to find his rhythm quickly.

As a Hyderabadi, a bit disappointed we lost the toss. Batting first here can be tricky. But our batting line-up is powerful! Head, Abhishek, and Klaasen can take any attack apart. Let's put up a big total, boys! 🧡 #OrangeArmy

Cameron Green "should bowl soon"? What does that even mean? Rahane's captaincy sometimes leaves me confused with these vague statements. Just be clear about your playing XI and strategy, yaar.

Excited to see Shivang Kumar get his debut for SRH! Always good to see young Indian talent getting a chance. Hope he makes the most of it. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh for KKR is my man to watch! He can finish anything. 🔥

The battle between Vaibhav Arora and the SRH top order will be fascinating. Those head-to-head numbers are very telling. If he gets early wickets, SRH could be in trouble. Pressure is on Ishan Kishan to finally score against him.
