Ahmedabad, May 2

Gujarat Titans celebrated Gujarat Day with a special team dinner on Friday evening, with players, team owners, support staff, and management coming together to honour the state's rich cultural legacy. To mark the occasion, the franchise presented players with specially crafted Tangaliya shirts, one of the state's most distinctive handwoven textiles, according to a release.

The players wore the shirts during the evening, showing visible excitement and enthusiasm as they engaged with the craft and expressed appreciation for its heritage. Tangaliya weaving has a history of over 700 years and originates from the Dangashiya community. It is known for its unique bead-like patterns, often described as "pearls on cloth."

Traditionally worn on special occasions, the craft reflects the spirit, resilience, and storytelling traditions of Gujarat, passed down through generations. In recent years, Tangaliya has also gained global recognition. This initiative reinforces the franchise's Gujarat-first ethos and reflects its continued focus on celebrating regional identity and strengthening the team's connection beyond cricket. Following two successive wins, the Shubman Gill-led side will now host the Punjab Kings on Sunday in their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match.

Love that they're spotlighting local artisans. These weavers work so hard to keep traditions alive. Hope this gives Tangaliya more exposure nationally. ❤️

Good initiative but I hope they paid fair wages to the weavers for these shirts. These craftspeople often get exploited. GT should also donate to support the community if they're using their heritage for branding.

As a Gujarati, this makes me so proud! My grandmother used to wear Tangaliya dupattas for weddings. Seeing Shubman Gill and the team in these shirts is surreal. Way to go GT! 🙌

Nice gesture but let's not forget they're 5th on the points table. Focus on winning matches first! Though I appreciate the cultural touch, the team needs to perform better. 😅

As someone who's visited Gujarat for work, this is wonderful! The handloom sector needs all the visibility it can get. Great to see an IPL franchise go beyond just cricket and celebrate local culture.

Tangaliya is truly unique — those bead-like patterns are handwoven, not embroidered! Glad GT is using its platform to preserve such ancient crafts. Hope they also invite the weavers to the stadium for a match
