India and Japan set to deepen ties during Takaichi's possible visit next month

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi may visit India as early as July to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, local media has reported.
Arrangements are being made for Takaichi's visit to Assam, where she will hold her second-in person meeting with PM Modi. The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including security and economy, based on Japan-India joint vision for the next decade announced during PM Modi's visit to Japan in 2025, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) reported.
Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, Takaichi and PM Modi are expected to discuss issues like ensuring the stability of energy supplies and making critical mineral supply chains resilient.
Takaichi wants to strengthen bilateral ties by establishing regular mutual visits by the leaders of both countries, NHK World-Japan reported.
In February, PM Modi congratulated Takaichi on her victory in Japan's House of Representatives election. In his message, PM Modi expressed confidence that he and Takaichi will continue to take the friendship between India and Japan to greater heights.
"Congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your landmark victory in the elections to the House of Representatives! Our Special Strategic and Global Partnership plays a vital role in enhancing global peace, stability and prosperity. I am confident that under your able leadership, we will continue to take the India-Japan friendship to greater heights," he wrote on X.
Takaichi thanked PM Modi for his wishes and stated that she is looking forward to working with him to strengthen the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
"Thank you very much, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for your warm congratulations on the House of Representatives election. I look forward to continuing to work together with you to strengthen the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between Japan and India and to cooperate in realising a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)," Takaichi posted on X.
Both leaders had met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg last November, discussing ways to add momentum to bilateral cooperation in sectors like innovation, defence, and talent mobility.

We are also looking to enhance trade ties between our nations. A strong India-Japan partnership is vital for a better planet," PM Modi posted on X.
