Implementing all promises made to farmers, says Telangana minister

Telangana minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy says state is fulfilling Congress election promises to farmers, including MSP procurement and loan waivers.

"The goal of the people's government is to eliminate the need for citizens to run around government offices for solutions. - Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy"

Hyderabad, May 3

Telangana's minister for revenue Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said on Sunday that the state government is implementing the promises made to farmers in the farmers' declaration released as part of the Congress party's election campaign by senior leader Rahul Gandhi.

He claimed that the 'farmers' friendly' government is fulfilling the assurances one by one by implementing various programmes.

He stated that paddy and maize crops are being procured at Minimum Support Price, with payments credited to farmers' accounts within a week.

The minister was speaking at Praja Darbar held in Khammam district as part of a 99-day action plan titled 'Praja Palana-Pragati Pranalika' (people's governance-progress plan).

He recalled that government waived crop loans of Rs 2 lakh for 25 lakh farmers while the financial assistance under Rythu Bharosa has been increased to Rs 12,000 per acre.

The government is also paying Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine paddy. A subsidy distribution programme for agricultural equipment will be conducted from May 5 to 7.

"As part of the Praja Palana, we are conducting farmers' festivals and organizing a distribution program of agricultural tools on subsidy to farmers in Warangal on May 5, 6, 7. We request the farmer brothers to make good use of this opportunity," he said.

Srinivasa Reddy stated that after the Congress government came to power in Telangana, a Farmers' Commission was also established.

Lashing out at previous government of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he said the BRS government handcuffed farmers in Khammam for demanding support price. Now they are trying to trap farmer brothers with fake love. The previous government ruled for 10 years and did not provide agricultural tools on subsidy to farmers.

He stated that the goal of the people's government is to eliminate the need for citizens to run around government offices for solutions. Instead, officials are reaching out directly to people, receiving petitions, and resolving issues on the spot.

The minister along with District Collector Divakar T.S. and Additional Collector Dr. P. Sreeja, he directly received grievances from the public.

He emphasised that since the formation of the "people's government, transparent governance has been taken to the doorstep of citizens, with every petition being carefully examined and acted upon promptly".

He assured that in the Paleru constituency, where mandals are organised into clusters for these Praja Darbars, all legitimate applications will be addressed without any political bias.

The government is making special efforts to resolve long-pending issues related to Sada Bainama, prohibited land lists, and land records, offering permanent solutions. He added that through the 99-day action plan, welfare schemes are being delivered more efficiently, stressing that ensuring justice to every eligible beneficiary is the government's responsibility without delay.

The minister noted that most applications received in Praja Darbars are for Indiramma housing and criticized the previous government for the current situation. He announced that funds for house construction are being directly credited to beneficiaries' accounts every Monday, and the second phase of Indiramma houses will be sanctioned by the end of May.

Handcuffing farmers for demanding MSP was shameful by BRS. Good that Congress is doing Praja Darbars—at least officials are listening directly. But hope this isn't just election gimmick; 99-day action plan sounds ambitious.

My parents are farmers in Nalgonda. The loan waiver helped them breathe a bit. But we need long-term solutions—irrigation and soil health. Bonus is nice, but predictable pricing year after year is what matters. ???

BRS did nothing for 10 years. Now they pretend to love farmers? Please. Congress is at least showing intent. But I'm cautious—many promises were made by all parties. Let the subsidy distribution happen smoothly first. ????????

Transparent governance at doorstep? Sounds good in theory. But in our mandal, officials still demand bribes for land records. I hope the Sada Bainama issue gets resolved permanently—too many poor farmers lose sleep over that. ?

Indiramma housing funds directly credited? That's actually a good step. Our village has many eligible families waiting for years. But if second phase is only in May, those in need will suffer another summer. ????
