IMD predicts heavy rainfall likely over Guwahati and all districts of Assam
Guwahati, June 20
The India Meteorological Department on Saturday has predicted thunderstorm and lightning with heavy rain and gusty wind and the next 2-3 days at isolated places in Guwahati city along with all the districts across the state.
The weather pattern suggests that thunderstorms and lightning with a few spells of rain are very likely to occur at the isolated places of the city, along with the other districts, especially in the western part of the state, in the coming 2-3 days, which may aggravate waterlogging, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable pockets.
The district authorities and Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.
In view of the situation, ASDMA requests all the people of Guwahati city to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant. The daily commuters and long-distance travellers are requested to plan their routines accordingly, avoiding unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides.
The status of the situation would be updated by ASDMA on its official website and on all its social media handles from time to time for general awareness.
The people are asked to stay tuned to official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this prolonged spell of rain.

Guwahati city corporation should start cleaning drains before monsoon arrives. Every June we get these warnings but no preventive action is taken. This is not just about IMD prediction, it's about civic preparedness.
As a daily commuter in Guwahati, I'm worried about the traffic chaos that comes with heavy rain. Already roads get jammed during normal rain, can't imagine what will happen now. Please avoid unnecessary travel everyone! 🚗💨
Good that ASDMA is alerting people in advance. Last year many areas faced landslides due to continuous rain. People in hilly areas like Khanapara and Beltola should be extra careful. Stay safe everyone! 🙏
My village in lower Assam always gets flooded during this time. The roads become impossible to use for weeks. Government should start distributing relief materials in advance instead of waiting for disaster to strike.
Finally some sunshine today, but it's temporary. Monsoon is lovely but the waterlogging and landslides are scary. Hope authorities keep drains clean and people living near hills stay alert. Assam ki barish se koi bach nahi sakta 😂🌧️
Thank you IMD for the timely warning. But I hope people actually listen and not step out unnecessarily. Many
