Nice to see the CM personally launching this drive on World Environment Day. The Chinar tree is iconic and fits Shimla's climate well. Also appreciate the publications - particularly the eco-tourism book. Himachal has such potential for sustainable tourism.
As someone from the US, it's encouraging to see Indian states taking concrete steps like this. Chinar trees have such historical significance in the region. The combination of afforestation with educational resources is a smart approach.
Great that they're involving school children. Environmental awareness needs to start young. But I wish more emphasis was placed on native Himalayan species too - Chinar is wonderful but a diversified approach would be even better.
World Environment Day and Himachal launches a plantation drive - perfect timing! The state has always been a leader in environmental conservation. Would love to see more such initiatives in other states too. Himachal sets an example! 🇮🇳
Chinar trees are majestic but they take decades to mature. We need quick-growing native species too for immediate carbon sequestration. Still, it's a positive step. Let's hope the saplings get proper watering and protection from stray animals.
